Post subject:  Mysterious lights overhead

No this is not a UFO sighting,
driving home from work tonight I was enjoying my ride in my liberty listening to some radio station , when my overhead interior lights flashed on for half a second. ?? I thought what the , hmm remember my wife telling me that they came on briefly last week when she used the wipers... Well I wasnt doing that , just driving...a few minutes later they go  on again! This time they stay on for 2 seconds! Please dont tell me my liberty has an electrical problem, that Chrysler Jeep wont know how to fix, and everything will start to go downhill from here!!! ( sorry just something I read about on this guy's website...)

funny I bought my dakota from the same dealership and dealt with the other dealership when I lived in the area...but thats another story.!
Where was I , oh yes anyway I decided to turn down the dash lighting as it has always been set at the highest level..so I turned it down a couple of notches and the rest of my trip home all was normal, no more flashing lights... I dont know if what I did even affected anything but that's what I did. Im hoping that this is a fluke , a random occurance, an anomoly if you will. If not I will let you know.

Did you buy your KJ new or used? If used, perhaps it is haunted. The previous owner may have died in the KJ and is haunting it.

I second that. It is haunted.
I once replaced my windshield control arm in my 94 Ford SHO from a junk yard.My buddy noticed red stuff on it and said it was probably blood from the guy who died in the car.Anyhow i replaced my broken one with that and 2 weeks later I got rear ended by a guy going about 45mph at a stop light. that was the end of my S.H.O. If i didn't have my seat belt on i would of gone through the windshield. The trunk was pushed into the rear seat. I gave my buddy the K&N air filter out of my demolished car before the insurance took it. 4 months later he was going down 93 south coming out of Boston in his S.H.O and flipped it 3 times and was ejected out of the sunroof which was closed at the time in mid air. He had a passenger in the car which was ejected out of the passenger side window who broke both legs. The guys who were working in the Big Dig at the time ran up took my buddy for dead and put a tarp over his body and tended to other guy who was moaning. when the EMT's arrived they checked my buddies pulse and he was still alive. He was in acoma for about 4 days and came to. He remembered getting into the car to drive home and nothing else. We blame that on the K&N air filter that came out of my haunted car..The State Troopers have the whole accident on tape from the highway cams posted through out the city. They are unsure of why the car just suddenly flipped out of nowhere. He said you could see him pop out of the sunroof after the 2nd flip.. No broken tie rods, wheels or tires.. Anyhow thought it was a cool story and a bit off subject..But your KJ is haunted

I got my KJ recently used from the dealer traded in my 02 dakota quad cab 4x4...wow that is quite the story MattyMac1 ! at least it seems everyone survives. I do hope my KJ isnt haunted...perhaps an exorcism.. However I can see in an x files kind of way how using parts from previous wrecks can pass on bad karma and all..

Just a thought...maybe since you usually keep the dash lighting at the highest level, the switch is accidently toggling (is that a word) to the "always on/door open" position when you go over a bump or something. Try having the dimmer toggle set one lower than the highest dim setting and see if it continues to happen????

its the Body Control Module...my Jeep used to do this untill I had it replaced...the dome light came on when I hit the turn signal. So it is not an isolated electrical gremlin. Just an expensive computer thing...The dealer may be able to reflash it if symptoms get worse...I just replaced mine. I had a buddy who worked for a dealership (where I bought my Jeep) who got me a spankin good price on it.

If I run our '02 in the bright position of the dimmer, it does the same thing.

Keep it away from that position and you may never see it happen again. I haven't.

Yup this is a common problem. My wife's did it too. It had a bad Body Control Module. Dealer put in a new one and it solved the problem...for a while.

Thanks everyone for the input! I'll keep it on the setting that I turned it down to and observe. LibertyCRD you say replacing it fixed it for awhile? So now it happens again?

It does not matter where mine is set, sometimes I go outside and all the lights are on? Ive yet to figure it out, dealer doesnt care about it.

I've had the exact same thing happen mutiple times over the past 2 years. The catch is that I only have it happen once every 3 or four months so there's no point taking it in to the dealership. If I can't get a problem to repeat, chances are the dealership isn't going to do anything about it.
