I finally got a chance to open up my front diff that I replaced in early Feb.
Are those cracks?

Looks to me that when the aluminum casting for the diff was poured it cooled down to quickly, causing stretching of the surface. I have seen this on aluminum castings and on allow steel investment castings. It normally is a surface imperfection, and the cracking appearance should only be on the surface. BUT, i have also seen the same thing with the cracks going deep. Only way to be sure is to get it magnetic particle inspected. Probally can be done at a automotive machine shop or a shop with the capability. Cheap insurance to know for sure before you put it back together.

I think I'm going to make a planter out of it. It had 195k on it when I took it out.
I replaced it with an 06 with 40k on it, and put a dtt in it.

So we have the skills in NJ to do gears? The money I may be able to save could buy me lockers :D

How are those gears Carmine?

Gears are the same. 3.73. Just put in the DTT, not too difficult but I had watchful eye along the way. The rear powertrax is giving me fits. It was working perfectly at Rousch Creek. Then it not so much. I think it might be the drivers side C Clip. Hopefully I will be able to open it up tomorrow.
