i have done a mod on my WRX that allows me to have my foglights with just my parking lights, and as well as remaining on while having my high beams on. i plan on buying the factory foglight kit for my wifes MY03 Liberty sport. with the factory kit can you do the same thing as i have done with my WRX? thanx, justin |

probably not...with out some trickery. IIRC, it is illegal in most states to have fog lights on with the high beams. Maybe one of our trooper members will chime in on this one. |

I thought I heard somewhere it was a matter of overloading the electrical or something related to that. It's weird that on the WRX you had to mod it in order to have the running lights and foglights on. I love how the KJ looks with that. |

I was involved in this thread elsewhere, somewhere on here. I've done this before on other cars. Basically, most setups are designed with switchable grounds. So you can just jump the ground to make it a fixed ground, and that should do it. If you buy the fog light kit afterwards, you are actually instructed to install the ground into the high beam wire (which is a common switched ground location). You may simply opt to ground it instead to the body. The Jeeps and most DMX allow for power to the fogs with just parking lights on from the factory, so just changing the ground will give you what you want. I've been meaning to do this mod on mine, but frankly since I have the Renegade with light bar, I don't need to really. One last thing, some say that the OEM control modules regulate this function, but I think you can still change the ground wire downstream of it, ie at the fog lights, and not effect the modules. It's just a ground wire for goodness sakes. |

The issue is that the head lights are on a single lamp system, a controller for each side (sorry, it's the best I could describe it. All Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge are set up that way.) I just put a britebox system on the wifes and had to buy two of the modules to control the head lamps. My truck only needs one. The good news is that they control the road lights also so when you turn on the high beams the lows and the driving lights stay on. I'm sure you could figure out how to build a system to do it but I wanted a "plug and play" that I didn't have to worry about. It's a little pricey at a little over $200 but it sure is slick. |

Really can't be done without bypassing the BCM. The switch is connected to the BCM. The BCM energize or de-energizes relay by closing or breaking its ground. There is no shared ground or anything. The BCM simply de-energizes the relay when the brights are switch on, same way it would when you turn them off. The only way is to have to rewire the switch to control the relay ground and not talk to the BCM. |

got this from another forum, does this sound right? 1. access the fuse box on the right... 2. pull out the fog lamp relay... 3. bend over pin 1 so that it doesn't make contact anymore... 4. reinsert relay, close cover, close hood. justin |

The wranglers are wired different that the KJs. I've dissected the entire system with a VOM and the factory service manual. It works in the way I described above. Bending a pin on a relay won't do a thing but make the fog lamps not work at all. |

so DO the KJ fogs stay on with high beams Down Under? If so, maybe a new relay bought there and sent here would do the trick? |

It's not the relay. It the BCM that needs to be modified. |

You could always have a dealer change the country code in your BCM to Australia, but that might cause the KJ to drive upside down and on the wrong side of the road. |

Couldnt you just bypass the bcm? That would take alot of looking around. And the FSM is wrong with wire colors, mine is at least. |

so if we simply remove the fog lamp switch sense wire and the fog lamp relay wire from BCM and tie them together it all should be happy. Or do the same thing relative to the high beam circuit. Just eliminate the BCM knowing the status of the fog and high beam lights. Ready for the smoke test? |

Ready for the smoke test? Just just wire the switch directly up to the relay would work. Bypass the BCM all together. |

this came from swyszomirski (2004 Liberty LJ (4x4) 5spd) over at http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224631 In order to be able to keep your fogs on with the high beams, the wiring (or re-wiring) is quite simple: For those of you installing your own fogs, take the purple wire that you are told to connect to the main head light and connect it to the black wire with a yellow stripe that comes out of the parking light. If you are trying to re-wire, then pull the wire wrap off the wires going to your left head light, and look for the purple wire. Thats what I did and it works great. justin |

They are wired differently from the factory, so that won't work unless you have installed the fog lights after the KJ was built. Case in point, if wired that way from the factory the fogs would only be able to come on when the low-beam headlights are on. However, they can be turned on with the park-lights or low-beams, just not the high beams. |

Has anyone found a simple way to keep the fogs on with the high beams on a factory installed fog light setup? Specifically an 03 Ren. |
