Post subject:  Air sound after replacing purge vent solenoid.

Hi, this is my first post but ive used this forum alot for my repairs.

My 2003 Liberty has 141k on it. It is a 3.7 V6 and I absolutely love the car but ive finally run into an issue I cant seem to figure out. Ive been dealing with check engline lights for almost eight months now. I was lazy and didnt do anything to resolve them untill about two months ago. Recently I have replaced both upstream O2 sensors, cam and crank shaft sensors. Engine light went away but came back as reading I had an evap leak somewhere. Did the cheap fix and bought a new gas cap, light came back on. Pulled the codes again and its telling me its either a purge vent solenoid, cracked hose or the cannister thats bad.

Last night I replaced the purge vent solenoid and after installing the new one, I notice a well...very noticeable air sound that I didnt notice before. To be proactive, I removed and inspected all of the engine compartment tubing and hoses. I replaced all of the rubber hoses in the engine compartment to be safe including one for my air intake system. However when the car is running ( and Im standing over the engine with the hood up ) I can hear a very obvious air sound. It appears ( from troubleshooting and sound location ) like the sound is comming from under the vehicle near the metal tubing near where it connects to the rubber/plastic hoses.

I am looking for any suggestions. The idea of a metal tube being rotted and leaking does not please my ears. Is it possible that since the solenoid wasnt working before, I just never noticed this? Or is there something more serious going on> Any help is appreciated.

follow the purge sel lines to the firewall where they turn and go down, there are 2 metal lines attached to the firewall, the plastic purge lines attach to the metal lines with rubber vac lines similar to prestone oil resistant fuel line

but anyway, yeah, very common portion of the purge system to rot away and not be able to see it , just pull the batt out so you can reach down the firewall easily, and pull the purge lines up by the rubber hoses and replace them - more than likely they're rotted

I found the air leak. Turned out to be the brake booster. Pretty simple removal and installation. Cost me a hundred bucks after 20 dollar core return.
