| Post subject: | 2" Receiver Shackle - $22 shipped |
I just bought this: from here: http://www.andale.com/stores/sf_itemHome.jsp?lid=282090678&cid=11582461&mode=1 It looks very sturdy, and it was the right price. HOWEVER - my hitch pin doesn't fit through it! It's very close to fitting but not quite. My pin is a locking Reese. I might bring the shackle into a tow place and finding a locking pin that does fit....or drilling the holes out a little larger. |

Since your pin doesn't fit, it might be only rated to the weight of a class 2 hitch not a class 3. Check and make sure the hook has a high enough pull rating before you use it. |

Pretty sure class II is always 1 1/4" and Class III is always 2" (the shackle and receiver are both 2", and the receiver is a class III) The pin hole in the shackle is *technically* the right size, but the pin just BARELY doesn't fit. Probably a slight out-of-tolerance on the manufacturing. I bet a normal hitch pin would fit but the locking one doesn't, or something. |

Try a drill bit, should fix you right up. |

I just got a reciever hitch tow hook a few weeks ago, and my pin didn't fit either. Same thing as you...technically was the right size, but just needed a slight slight bit drilled out for the pin to slide on through. I ended up forcing the pin on through by hand, and once I did that it loosened up a little more and works OK now. |

It's going to be difficult to find a drill bit that is "just slightly larger than 5/8", especially since my drill is one of those small little ones. Maybe a hand file would be enough... |

Could just be the paint build-up in the hole? I would put a smaller drill bit in the hole and try taking some of the paint off before I drilled the hole bigger. That could make it rattle like crazy. |

Good find on the shackle! I'm going to be getting one of those shortly. Got a Dremel? Put a metal brush polishing tip on it and push it through there a few times. I'll bet the black finish put it out of tolerance.
You could use one of these in your little drill too, if you don't have a Dremel. |

Dremel is great. Grinding stone or small sanding wheel could give you the tolerance you need. Or a file. Either way. If you wanna drill, go step by step if you can. They may larger than 3/8" bits with a smaller shank so you can use your regular drill on it. |

Pin is same size for both class 11 and class 111 hitches. Dremel is an excellent suggestion, I had to use one to get my locking pin to fit in my class 11 hitch. It doesn't take much to make it fit. |
