Well my drivers side rear window regulator bit the dust... i have 2 questions.

1. Is there an extended warranty on them.. or does Chrysler replace them for free?
2. If Chrysler wont fix it for free what's my best fix? should i get a chrysler part or after market.. or is there a good fix?

i've seen this discussed before but didnt think to bookmark it. Tried to search but didnt get anywhere.

to make matters better the rear door that has the broken regulator now wont open.. so i guess ill take the upholstery off from the inside and try to figure that out.

little background info... my jeep is a 2006 with 54,000 miles. this is the first regulator to fail

Can't speak for the Chrysler warranty, but I think they extended it for 06-07 KJ's (don't quote me on that).

Best quality would be a Steiger part, but they're $100.

http://www.steigerperformance.com/

I bought some ebay metal replacements (basically the same as Steiger, but NOT the same quality) and it did the job. Installed last month on my two broken windows, everything still holding up.

Either way, check your build date to determine which part you need. Some 06's have the same parts as '02-'05 but other 06's have a different part.

In the mean time, you can do what I did and open up the door panel, push the window up and zip tie the base so it doesn't slide down. I had the two broken ones like that for a couple years before I got around to remedying it.

The above solution is if the plastic piece that attaches to the window track is broken. If your motor is broken, that's a different story.

I had mine replaced under the extended warranty, it cost me $100 deduct. I was informed by the dealer that they could not waive that fee, even though I that was the dealership I had purchased the Jeep from 6 yrs ago. I then proceeded to call Chrysler Customer relations where i was promptly invited to Go F.Yourself for the $100. 1 week later I got a call from a survey person asking how my interaction was with Chrysler, this is where I told the lady how I felt and that if I was not reimbursed for the $100 I would never buy another Chrysler vehicle for as long as I lived, and I would advise all my friends of this situation whenever they were making a decision on what vehicle to purchase, and im a young person so I have many years left and many cars left to buy. another week went by and I got a call from someone in the same dept that denied my reimbursement, she advised me that she had reviewed my case and she now felt that Chrysler should cover the cost of the repair (being that I had already had that regulator replaced once before). another week went by and I had a check in my hands for the $100 I had loaned Chrysler for my repair.

Not sure if I would rely on this but it is an option if you have to pay out of pocket.

I took mine into the dealer last week and they replaced all 4. I was shocked.

Just had my left rar regulator fail. My dealer says they know nothing about an extended warranty. Anybody have any more specifics on this?

All they have to do is type in your VIN number and it should appear. Like I said, my dealer replaced all 4 under the extended warranty on the same day, no questions asked. Are you the first owner? That might have something to do with it, I really don't know.

Thanks Dieselenthusiast. I am the original owner, bought in Septembr of '06. The dealer dd run my VIN number, but siad there is no warranty. I called Chrysler and they assured me the repair should be covered under warranty, probably including all four regulators. I called the dealer back, and they asked me to bring it in this afternoon, so I guess I'll find out more then.

I'd like to have all four windows upgraded, but I hate the thought of the dealer taking apart things that work perfectly well, then putting them all back together.

If possible, have the dealer do all 4 of them today. According to my dealer, Chrysler recommends that the dealer do all 4 in one day that way the customer doesn’t have to repeat the process several times until eventually they all get replaced. They didn't touch my window with the Steiger fix. Interesting, eh?

same thing happened to me. i was the original owner... bought in september of '06... called the dealer.. they ran my VIN and said no warranty on them... they are calling chrysler and getting back to me because they 'should' be covered. So i guess i'll call chrysler now. and wait for the dealers return call and see how much they want to rob me after further denying the extended warranty haha

If you have trouble, let me know. I'll tell you who I talked to at Chrysler, or maybe you can get your dealer to call mine.

Looks like you guys have a better dealer than me. They just called. Said it was not covered by the extended warranty; the regulator had failed. They want $500+ to fix it. And if I don't have them fix it, I owe them for an hour or so "diagnosis".

I don't think I even believe them. I really hate dealers.

Unfortunately you have an incompetent service advisor who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He has had to seen hundreds of window regulator failures from the Jeep Liberty. I would do three things. (1) Call Chrysler and put in a complaint. (2) Go to the dealer and ask to speak to his boss. (3) Go to a different dealer after the dealership tells you that they screwed up.

i'll know for sure tomorrow.. they talked to chrysler and they said it would be covered with a deductible (then i said no to the deductible)... and they said it would be covered without a deductible as long as it was the lift plate that was the problem. I'm taking it in tomorrow for them to make sure the lift plate is the problem.

so hopefully this all goes well and it will be covered with the warranty.

It's always the lift plate. I've had 2 fixed under warranty already.

Calling the dealer incompetent may be too generous. I kind of think they are crooked, trying to make a low profit warranty repair into a high profit job.

I'm going to get the vehicle back on Monday (even though they want me to pay for taking the door apart to look at it) and try to see if the regulator really is bad, or if it is just the lift plate.

Has anyone done this repair themselves? What should I look for?

They should pay for it....

today before i went to the jeep dealer i crawled through my passenger side and took off the door upholstery from inside (since the door with the broken regulator wouldnt open).. and the cable was wrapped around the latch. So i got the door to open then put it all back together so it looked like i didnt touch it.

took it to the dealer.. after waiting for 2 hours they told me the lift plate broke.. the need to order parts... and i wont owe anything. It will all be covered under the warranty. So that was nice. Although i think a lot of that was due to Star at Urse Jeep chrysler dodge in Fairmont WV (so far a great dealer to work with).

When the part comes in they'll call me and i'll set up a time to get it put in.

if anyone is reading this.. copy, paste, and save this bit of information.

Wow they told me it was going to be $400 to fix mine when I had the KJ, so I went out and just got a $50 assembly on amazon and replaced it in 20 minutes. Glad you got it under warranty though.

What did you end up buying to fix your 02? I have all 4 windows inop right now, but I can hear to motors working they just don't move. I have yet to rip the door panel off, it's my moms car and I don't get the chance to work on it much so I want to try to get the parts before tear down. Thanks.
