That's what I've heard, I only have one day there so I'm trying to make it count.

We'll be there for the Jamboree, too...look for a well-worn red Liberty from Ohio. This will be our third Ouray Jamboree. When are you getting into Ouray? The trail leaders run an unofficial Black Bear Pass trail ride on the Wednesday before the Jamboree, so you might want to be in town for that (it's a blast). Keep an eye out for an email from the Trail Coordinator for the invite to the Black Bear Pass run.

As far as post-Jamboree, we're sticking to Colorado, planning to do some exploration around Marble and Aspen, then back east via RMNP. Have fun in Moab...it's kinda hard not to. Fins n Things is a great trail, as is the Arches Four Wheel Drive Road from the Klondike Bluffs area down to Balanced Rock.

Here are a few links to some of the images I shot on those trails, if you're interested in seeing what you're getting yourself into:

Thanks for the info. I don't think I'll be there that early. I'm going through Great sand dunes, medano pass, and Tin Cup Pass, and possibly Hayden Pass, on Wednesday. I'll be heading into Ouray on Thursday through Engineer pass from Lake city. Hopefully before 5pm. It depends how long it takes me to get through Engineer pass. I want to get there early so I can get the Ophir Pass/Imogene Pass trail and the Yankee boy basin/ Governor's basin trails.
Do you recommend those trails? I want a challenge, not just an easy trail ride. I'll be doing that the previous days.
Were there alot of people near the big obstacles at Fins n Things? I'm going alone an would like to ask people to take photos for me.

I'll be in the green KK renegade. I look forward to seeing you there.

If you are going to Ouray through Engineer pass you will probably take the route on Mineral creek trail.
We did that trail last week up hill from Ouray And it was a bit more challenging than most of the trails in that area.
And Governors basin had it's moments.
If you want something a little more challenging instead of doing Tin cup pass, check out Pearl pass just north of Crested butte and then return on Taylor pass. We just did that on Thursday and it was Amazing.

We're doing pretty much the same route as you, only a couple of days earlier. We're planning to do Medano Pass on our way to GSDNP on Monday, then head into Ouray on Tuesday via Engineer Pass...our reservations at the Best Western start Tuesday night.

The route up to Engineer Pass from Lake City is relatively easy, as is the pass itself. Make sure you stop at the overlook just to the west of the actual pass...many a Jeep commercial was filmed here. I agree with KSKJ - the hardest part is on the west side of the pass near Mineral Point...you shouldn't have any trouble...we did it unlifted in '09, with skid plates. If it's a concern, you can head towards Animas Forks and head back towards Ouray via California/Hurricane/Corkscrew Passes, or take the easy way back to Silverton.

Ophir Pass is the easiest of the bunch, assuming you have no problem with narrow shelf roads. Imogene Pass is fairly easy, too, but it's a lot higher, with more shelf roads. We signed up for Yankee Boy and Governor Basin last year, but snow kept us from getting up there...we're planning to sign up for those trails again this year (probably on Saturday.)

Fins n Things was a lot of fun, and we never had to wait for anybody nor have anybody wait on us. We hit the trail at about 10am and were off it by about 2, on Labor Day last year. Other than a large group from the Red Rock 4x4 club, we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

See ya in Ouray...glad to have a fellow Liberteer out there.

kskj Pearl Pass looks amazing, but I don't think I'll have the time this year maybe next time I go, I want to do TinCup because last time I was there with my parents we had a 2WD truck and the sign said 4X4 only :banghead: . I wanted to see were it went. The fact that we couldn't made me want to come back and try it in a 4x4 (planted the seed for 4x4ing), and St. Elmo is a neat place to visit too. But I am definitely considering trying to go to Pearl next time. I'm just weird like that, I don't like being denied.
Yes I plan on taking Mineral creek weather permitting. I've seen videos of that shelf road and it looks scary, oh well all the more fun right.

Cameraflage, So I guess I'll need to bring a tripod to take pictures at MOAB, huh? Hopefully we'll get Governor basin.

I'm also doing the Ouray Jamboree this year. Driving up from South Florida, spending a few days in Moab before going to Ouray. Wanting Ophir / Imogene Pass & Yankee Boy Basin / Goveners Basin too. Would you say these are the most popular trails? This will be my first time in either Moab or Ouray. Looking forward to meeting you guys.
