Well, temp. is now below freezing here for the winter...and my brand new KJ has two cracked fog light lenses. I've heard others complain about the same thing happening to their '05s. I guess these factory fog lights can't handle the sub-freezing temperatures. What a bunch of cheap crap. I guess it's back to the dealership AGAIN for my KJ....

Not a problem here with mine (knock on wood) and it has been very cold lately up here. Should be about 13 degrees. Didn't have a problem last winter either. Could be just for the `05's new Fog lights.

I use my fog lights most days (handy for the parking garage at my work), no cracks yet. Eleven degrees farenheit yesterday morning.

If you get a handle on what causes that, let us know, I'm sure everybody would like to avoid it (I know I would).

Ok I sure will. This is the first time I've ever had the foglights on any of my vehicles shatter into flaky cracks like this. I assume it's just the cheap material the fog light lenses are made of because my headlights are perfectly fine. I'll let you know what the dealer says. Hopefully there is an "updated" part to replace these with so they won't do it anymore. I wish I had the Renegade style fog lights that mount on the bumper...then I would just replace them with some quality lights myself and be done with it... Oh well..

Naaa....both of them cracked at the same time, and both are suffering from cracky, flaky lenses. It's pretty obvious that the heat from the bulb on one side, and the cold air on the other side don't mix well for these lenses. Poorly manufactured junk.... I've bought better fog lights for $17.00 at Wal-Mart before. This is ridiculous. :(

My fogs show no ill signs so far. I use them all the time too. I will definitely keep an eye on them though, especially as the weather heads south. I wonder what our aftermarket options are. I've seen bulb replacement/upgrade parts, but that's all my search has turned up.

Yeah I have wondered about aftermarket options too. Problem is, since these factory fog lights are integrated into the front end of the Jeep...it would take some really slick fabricating work to replace the lights with something else. :( Still waiting for the dealer to call me back...been waiting for an hour....

I have a 2005 Rennie, and use my fog lights all the time, and so far so good...knock on wood.

Well I took my KJ to the local Jeep dealership yesterday. They replaced both factory fog lights...no questions asked. Kit was $195, covered under warranty. So now I have two brand new ones...temp. is going back into the teens next week so I'll see how this set does.

I've actually still got a bit of water in my passenger side fog that freezes up nicely for the winter, no cracks even with the icecube inside :) I'd say you just got unlucky....

I would say what is happening is water is getting inside them then freezing. Everyone check you lights for water b/c that would be the only way they would crack.

I just noticed on my 05 KJ that both of mine are cracked also. I live in San Diego,CA so I have not seen temps below freezing, I do use them all the time but they have never gotten wet when on or have been on.

I'll go to the dealership later next week and see what they say.

Are the lenses and bulbs one piece or are they seperate?

It looks like they are separate, I just checked mine, their fine and we've hit 10 below already.

Hey there CTKJ, I noticed that you have the Cooper Discover ATR's. Have you had them off roading yet and if so, how did they do and how do you like them? I just got a set for my girlfriends Chevy Trailblazer because the stock tires really suck in the rain and worse in the snow, even in 4WD.
Thanks for the reply.
I was also looking at the STT's and the ST-C's while I was there getting the ATR's.

I've got the ST's, and they're OK, but self cleaning in the mud they are NOT. they stick better in the rain than the stock Goodyears (I've driven quite a few 05-6s with those tires in the rain...YECH), but i've had better rubber.

In all honesty, I woulda never bought these tires (they came on the jeep when I got it) because I'm a Bridgestone and Yokohama man, but i'm fairly happy with 'em. that isn't saying that I'm gonna stick with 'em when I need new rubber, though.
