I think the Front Axel Arm (not sure what the actual name is) broke or something this morning when I was just driving it work. Didn't hit a bump just driving on a flat road and it started grinding some horrible, now I assume the grinding was the front differential. Pics below to see what I'm talking about, I looked at another jeep and it shouldn't be sticking out that far, it looks like it went upward and ground on the housing a bit. I pulled off the road and it went away and drove fine (crawling at 10mph or less the last 3 blocks to work) ![]()

Are you sure there wasn't something up in there that it was rubbing against? If it moved up enough to grind on the housing or something then CV and Intermediate shaft are both really bad. It is the right side correct ? |

I guess i can't guarantee nothing bounced up there but the rubbing on the housing also looks to fit...it went away completely after I turned off but correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the shaft is sticking out way too far. And yes it's the right (passenger) side. |

I just went out and looked everything over again, and here's a better pic of the rub. It definitely looks like shaft did hit the housing, you also can't tell by the pics but where the shaft actually connects at the housing i can actually see a bit of the teeth... and from the looks of it it's been that way for a while. Correct me if I'm wrong but there must be 4 pieces to connect the shaft's to the differential? One straight piece off the differential on each side and one angled piece connecting to the CV's? Here's one more pic...

It looks like you'll be needing a new CV and Intermediate shaft as well never seen one that bad Get a rebuilt one from NAPA 55-60 with trade in of old one Not sure what the Intermediates run now, last one I got for stock was 85 bucks Then hose all of that mud out from under it! |

What worries me is the grinding... would that have probably been those teeth at the end of the intermediate shaft? Or am I looking farther into the differential. Either way i'm sure enough metal was shaved off to require it to be replaced as well. Also this isn't quite stock, it's got the original Frankenlift I with gen 4.5 UCA's so should i look at upgrading both sides to something else? I hate to put this much into it right now cause I wanted to go SFA in a while. |

Well you have to pull the CV anyways so you can see what the intermediate shaft looks like then. Just pull them out, check them over you can drive with them out for a while better than it is now for sure |

Thanks for the advice Tom that's the plan for now... hopefully the Intermediate shaft is all i heard getting ground into pencil filings. I guess i can't compain too much, other than a bad BCM the UCA's going bad this is all the other "fix's" i've had to put into it. |
