The power steering pump has begun to make some noise and I'm getting some feelings of light/over boosted from the steering wheel. What is the exact process to replace the pump?

I did some searching through the Forum last night and I didn't find any write ups on in. Looking at AutoZone's process, it says to remove the fans and shroud? Is this the case? I guess they want you to remove the fan and shroud to allow access to the High and Low pressure hoses? But looking at it, it seems that it's just a matter of removing the bolts that hold the pump to the bracket.

1st buy the OEM pump, trust me it's worth it.You also will need a power steering pump removal/install tool kite($20 most auto parts stores).Don't forget to replace the return line, and pressure line if leaking but the return line is very important to replace with the pump and must replace the o-ring on the pressure line fitting(special o-ring,not rubber).

Besides that if you do not have HD cooling(mechanical fan) no need to remove the electric fan, just remove the serp belt, pressure line, return line(line is crimped on the bottom of tank, very hard to reach),then remove the 3 bolts holding the pump to the engine(using the holes through the pulley). Then swap the pulley to new pump, put new return line on,and reverse order of how you took it off.To bleed raise the front wheels off the ground and turn wheel back and forth slowly with engine on.May make some noise for 500 miles or so.If you bought a remaned pump you'll have to swap over the tank also, not fun and plan on doing it a few times as they fail pretty early and often.

Great info. Thanks for responding

Quick question. Is the tool kit mentioned for removing the pulley from the pump? Also, would it be easier to remove the low pressure hose from the rack versus the tank and do the disconnect at the bench? How much easier is it ( If any) to disconnect from the rack?

Where is the best place to pick up an OEM pump other than a dealership?
