| Post subject: | Removing the bumper |
In a few days i'm going to have to be taking the bumper off to install some tow hooks. I bought the kit off of a member, and he's got the bolt-plates as opposed to the M-bolts that come in the aftermarket kit. I was wondering if anyone knew the part number for the plastic rivets that i will need in order to re-install the bumper. Thanks for the help. Also, any tips/pics would be appreciated. Thanks, -Savage- |

Im sure any parts store would have them. I believe a special rivet gun is needed also for the plastic ones. |

I bought the rivets from the dealer for about 75 cents a piece. There is a different clip that you will need also for the wheel flares. I was able to salvage mine when I installed my Hidden Hitch front receiver, but it was rather difficult. There are three of these clips on each side plus the rivets. Once the bumper cover is off, the tow hooks are real easy to install. |

Do I need a rivet gun to put the bumper back on, or just the plastic rivets from the dealer or NAPA? I'm not sure if they are press in things or if they need the rivet gun to be installed. Rick |

You will need a rivet gun. Now the plastic rivets have a wide shaft. I looked all over for a rivet gun that would support it. I finally eneded up with a regular rivet gun, but took off the fitting at the end that sizes it for the particular rivet that you are using. When you search for the gun, take a rivet with you. |

Rick If you go to the thread that Metrowest_kev linked to, there is a link to a .pdf file from one of the manufacturers. Scroll down thru the file and you'll see them using a pair of pliers and a pair of vise-grips to install the rivets. This is how I did mine when I installed my draw-tite front hitch. Since the rivets are plastic they don't need anywhere near the aomount of power to install that a metal rivet would. You may have to cut off any plastic that is protruding after the rivet is installed, but that just takes a knife. |

Don't bet on a parts store having them in stock!!! Look AHEAD of time. I spent more time looking for those things than I did taking the bumper off and putting it back on! |

A pair of pliers worked for me on my fender flare rivets. |
