| Post subject: | Speedometer Failure in my 02. |
So I was driving down to Raleigh to get my Rock rails installed by Carolina Rock Shop. About 2 hours into the drive (3 hour drive) my speedometer went crazy! I was cruising at 70mph and all of the sudden the cruise control stopped working and the e-brake light went on (it was not engaged at all). My odometer is not regestering any milage at all. I got to Raleigh and let the KJ sit overnight. When I started her back up, the speedometer worked. It worked for about 15-20 minutes (cruise control back on) and then the same thing happened again. Fast Foreward: On the drive back to Richmond from Raleigh, my tranny light was on the whole drive up. I stopped when it came on and felt the tranny to see if it was overheating. It seem to be at the normal temp so I figured it would be ok to drive to Richmond. I made it home and I really dont want to drive it much at all with all this going on. Does anyone know what the issue is? |

I know it sounds funny but check your battery connections and main ground wire. Sometimes a weak connection can make the computer go crazy. |

Check out this thread. My 02's speedo did the same wild fluctuating before it went dead altogether. Turns out Jeepin Al was correct -- the connector wires on top of the rear diff had chaffed through thanks to the e-brake line rubbing against it. I bought the re-wire kit (see thread for part number) and that fixed it! http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=5966 |

More than likeley associated with the speed sensor on the rear diff or the wiring to it. |

Alright thanks for the replys. Now, when I was coming home from work today, the "Engine/Auto Tranny Malfunction" light came on. Any idea? I do have a homemade CAI with no MAF sensor. Could this be an issue? I tried to pull a code but nothing came up. This thing IS going to the stealership tomarro for a FULL diagnostics. ABS sensors are getting replaced, Speedo lines checked, malfunction light getting checked, BOTH ball joints. Anyone have an idea what else I should get them to check on that is a known issue with the 02 KJ? |
