So I bought some cheap lights from an auto store a while ago http://www.truckcustomizers.com/product ... ights.html have them hooked up to a relay and wired and all hooked up and working. but now I want more light. Do you think I could just switch the bulbs in these lights to a brighter bulb? Or should I just replace the lights and hook them up to the wiring/relay and switch that is there now? |

If the lens and the reflector can handle the heat, you can stick a 100 watt bulb in there. Cheaper lights might be made of plastics that won't handle a jump from your stock 55watt to a 100 watt. Make sure the relay can handle 2 -100 watt bulbs. Also the wiring should be at least 12 gauge as to minimize voltage drop. I'm in the process of installing a pair of 100w Hella Optilux(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001A1FD0K/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02) As many reviews mentioned the light rusting out pretty quickly(what do you want for 51 bucks!) I roughed them up and painted them with rustoleum bed liner. I'm replacing an even cheaper set of lights from Harbor Freight. They are 100watt also but very hard to aim and the light pattern sucks. But what do you want for a 20dollar a set spot light! |

Andrew, those lights do not produce any real usable light. Mostly for show. To "look cool". If you want some real output, look for some real Hellas, or KC Lights. You're going to have to drop a bit more cash to get what you're looking for. |

Correct Dean, actually the only reason I bought them is cause I needed to see higher on the roadway, so i get a little better vision of the road. I dont want to drop $$$ on hellas, was hoping there could be a cheap fix like buy the housing and bulbs separately or something of that sort. I also installed some LEDs to the footwells for nighttime, ![]() Id like to wire them to the headlights, how is this possible? or is there a better option, they currently connect to a cigarette adapter, but only 1 of the 2 ports work so I want to wire them. Whats my best option? PS. I WANT TO TEST MY GUARD DOGS IN THE SNOW! CMON NY GET SOME WHITEEEE |

I'm not quite done with the installation of my Hella Optilux 1900 but I did build a mount, mounted them temporarily and modified the existing wiring for the new lights. The first thing I noticed is the concentration of the light beam. The old Harbor Freight 100 watt lights were more for show. I had a hard time determining the correct aim and after messing with the mount repeatedly, I came to the conclusion that they were junk. The Optilux are a pencil beam, a 8 inch circle of light that should reach out quite a ways. I didn't want to drop a ton of money but I kept coming back to the Optiluxs and when I found out they are built by Hella I decided to give them a try. They aren't the best. The shell is not real thick, the chrome pretty thin but the mount bolt is a 1/2 inch, heavy rubber isolation washers, coated aluminum or steel reflector with a glass lens, both mounted in a thick rubber ring held in place by 2 steel rings. I'll post some pictures in the next couple of days after I'm done So far I'm really happy with what I've seen. With my stock fogs I have nice close flat fog beam. My E-code Hella 7" headlights cover the mid to long range and the Optiluxs should take care of any shortcomings in the long areas. |
