Define 'flat' - my 05 goes close to flat - but close is still the edge of the seat raised about 3 inches, no where near the flat of any other fold down car seat I've had.

well i think he means that the '05+ rear seats fold a hell of a lot flatter than the previous years...

do the '02-'04 seat bottoms lower down further to the floor when you fold the seat-back down? on my '05 the seat-bottom mechanically lowers while the seat-back folds forward... you have to be careful that there isn't anything under the seat that can be smashed when you fold the seats down...

if they do lower down like the '05+ models, then i'm not sure how the newer ones fold flatter aside from thinner seat cushons..

They made the bottom pad thinner to let the back of the seat go down further when laid down. Kind of a stupid way to do it. I wish it worked like the cherokee. they can take the bottom pad out, my bro does that in his so no one can ride with him.

Mine also,on the 04,sits up about 3 to 4 inches. As I recall I read somewhere that later models did, indeed, fold flat.

They advertise it as "fold flat rear seats" much like they advertise "18/23mpg" and "9.4 inches of ground clearance"

True

Ill never understand where they got the 9.4in of ground clearance. I had 6.5 at the front skid.

Don't see why you couldn't get a newer rear seat and replace it. But it would suck for any passengers back there since it's not supposed to be as comfortable.

I'll bet for alot less money u could go to an upholstery guy and have him thin out ure stock padding and restrech the seat cover to fit.
