Post subject:  Air bag light!?!?!?!?! 17 codes?!?!?!?!
So my airbag light likes to come on every now and then. I hit a deer and was hoping to get the Airbag stuff fixed/looked at for free. To make the story short my 02 kj was brought to the jeep dealer and when they read the codes they got 17 different codes. Later when they started it back up no airbag light no codes!!!! Just like before when i had been driving it it have simply gone off!!! Has anybody experienced any similar problems or know whats wrong? i do know there has been a recent recall out for the computer system i do not know if there is any correlation but the jeep dealership didn't know either. Any help would be great.

Seems these days when you get one code, it's followed by a few. 17 sounds like a lot. Were they possibly exaggerating?

The most I've seen was 15 codes,ended up being a bad PCM.


That many codes in one computer would most likely be a bad computer or some wiring issues.Since you had a front end collision I'd be talking to your insurance company to cover this repair as a recall or even warranty of any kind would not cover it due to a wreck having been involved.

I know there was recently a recall sent out for 2002 KJs due to the airbag going off all by itself....maybe have the dealers fix whatever the recall involved and test the system out.

I will have a look for that recall....you can try search for it. :)

Do you know what the 17 codes were?

Bad computer sounds more likely to me. I had some water leak in my sunroof once could be the result. They gave it back to me and said it was safe to drive. Guess im going to just continue using it till something happens.
