| Post subject: | Weird gurgling sound |
Well, we had a big lightning storm here last night. Flashing, booming, crashing, dogs piling onto the bed, rain pouring down. Got up this morning to clear skies and muddy yard (and muddy floor after the dogs tracked it in). Got in the Jeep and headed to work with the radio off (I love listening to this motor...is that weird?). Cruising along, decided to open the window a little bit so I could feel the wind in my hair...errrr...whatever. Opened the window about 4" and sat back for a liesurely drive. I soon realized that I am not only listening to the sound of the wind coming in the open window, I'm also hearing a...strange....gurgling? Like someone blowing bubbles in a glass of water with a straw. What in the world??? I close the window and it stops. Open the window and it's back. Open all the windows and it's gone, but only because, with all the windows open, doing 50...I NOW CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING. So I close the windows and try to pinpoint the sound. I'm driving all over the road as I move my head back and forth throughout the cabin, trying to isolate the source of the sound. I finally decide that it's coming from the sunroof. A strange gurgling sound, but only if a window is open. So when a heavy rush of air comes into the cabin from another source, what would cause a gurgle in the sunroof? I checked all the low-lying spots in the sunroof opening and didn't see any pools of water. I know some got in there during the storm 'cause there was some moisture in there. But moisture doesn't gurgle...big pools of water gurgle. Anyone have any idea how I could have a big pool of water in my sunroof after the rain storm. I've had lots of sunroofs and they've never let water in when they're closed (it was fully closed during the storm). |

It took me a while to find that sound, it's coming from the space between your sunroof, and where the inside roof is. Just close your Sunroof pad thingy about 1/3 to 1/2 the way, and the sound disappears. It's just how the wind makes the sound whirrling up there...LOL it's ok... Edit: I've never had any water in there after a storm, and still get the sound any day, any weather. |

Maybe your drain tubes for the sunroof are blocked? I haven't ever heard a sound like that after a heavy rain storm. If you have ever replaced the third brake light, look in through the opening.... Lots of space in there there between the headliner and the roof of the Liberty |

Good point, I'll look, but that shouldn't be a problem for 2 2005's. They have changed some things between the 02's and 05's. Maybe the drains are in different places, or different diameters, who knows...but it only happens at certain speeds, with the window down only so far. I'll try to figure out the speed and distance open, next time I'm out, but it's not my dd, so it could take a few days. |
