I'm not speaking from experience, but I've read many times that noises like yours often turn out to be the a bad rear cv on the front driveshaft (the transfer case end). The rubber boot gets a hole, then road grime gets in and kills the cv joint. Search for that in the 4x4 section (it will be mostly KJ's but the front end is basically the same in the KK) to find out how to check for it and what part to order if the cv is bad. If this is your problem, you won't need a whole new driveshaft, just the cv end. And welcome to LOST!

Thanks for this.
I did some more testing and concluded that it's only when I park the vehicle for longer than an hour and only happens once. The noise/feeling starts around 15mph, does it's 5 thud course then stops. I can't imagine that I'd already need a new cv end after only 16,000 miles .
