My parents went to town to get some things from Wal-Mart the other day. They called me later that night to tell me they had seen a lady with a Jeep Liberty stranded on the side of the road. As they got closer, they realized that her entire front end on one side had come apart. Her wheel, tire, axle, etc. was completely gone. No doubt it was the dreaded ball joints. Knowing that my wife and I both drive KJs, they called to tell me about it. My wife just traded her KJ for a XK last week actually. Thankfully she didn't have any ball joint failures in 21,000 miles that she owned that KJ. But I immediately went out and checked my ball joints again as I'm at 21,500 miles myself. Mine seem to be OK. But man...this thing with the ball joints is really starting to worry me a bit now. If that lady my parents saw had been on the Interstate running about 70 mph when her ball joints went bye-bye like that, it would have been a nasty scene.

Install some Moogs in there, grease them up regularly and worry no more!

Where do you get Moog's ball joints? Is it only the lower BJ that has problems? Do the rear axle BJ's have the same problem? I have an 02 (bought it used @ 59k) and according to Jeep's website all the recalls have been done.

Call around to your local auto parts stores and ask them if they can get or carry Moog. Carquest stores Should be able to get them and Napa also. Any of the bigger national chains should be able to order them if they don't carry them.
