I killed my factory horn(s) a while back, or at least mamed them, by crossing a small 16" deep stream at a friend's cabin. The water was fairly swift, so the surge height was enough to get up inside my DS fender flare and fill up my horn (the pre-05s have it in the engine bay and jeep should have left it there...). I disassembled the mount and cleaned out the horns as well as I could with clear water and warm air, but I think they're kaput. So, I'm probably going to buy these to replace them, as they're well-reviewed in the community:

I haven't decided if I'm going to leave them in the stock location or try to relocate, but I do want to waterproof them as well as is reasonable. I thought of putting a flexible membrane over the horn to at least keep out splashes and direct spray and am wondering what would be a good material to use (long-lasting, flexible, fairly thin so it doesn't muffle the horn. All I've come up with so far for possible materials is:
- condom
- latex balloon
- shower cap
- ???
In each case, I'd probably put a small rubber band around the lip to hold it in place. Any other ideas for keeping stuff out?

Dan

I'd just move them up in the engine compartment somewhere and be done. Anything you put over the outlet of each horn will knock down the sound somewhat.

For horns just go for the Caddy Sedan DeVille horns, there are 4 horns and matched set, nice and loud

The old factory location (between battery and headlamp) seems to have a little electronic doohicky down there, now, so that spot's out. I figured something fairly flexible wouldn't dampen things (much) as the horn sound in these units isn't really made by a large volume of airflow but rather the conical resonance pattern starting at the emitter in the middle. Anyone have some good shots of their 2002-2004 factory unit so I can see if there's room in there on mine to move it?
