As I mentioned earlier in this chat I wasted a lot of time and $s chasing adapters that actually worked with the OEM radio and would not personally recommend going down that route.
If you do go that route I'd strongly recommend paying extremely close attention to the exact model OEM radio you have and whether or not a potential adapter is "really" compatible with that model radio. I won't pick on specific companies but there is lots of conflicting information out there some of which is being provide directly from the adapter manufactures, been there done that. I would go so far as to say before purchasing post your OEM radio model and the specific adapter(s) you are considering and ask which ones folks have found actually work.
My personal opinion it in the long run it's easier and you will have vastly fewer headaches just going to some place like Crutchfield and getting a radio with the features you want. Generally shipping is free as is the wiring harness and face plate adapter. If you don't have steering wheel controls and are ok with using your iPod or some such to control what plays and don't want bluetooth you can get a name brand unit for well under $100. Going up from there you can get a steering wheel control (I like the Axxess), bluetooth/iPod control, AM/FM, CD changer with all the bells and whistles for no more than $250
It took me a while to find that adapter... but it DOES work
I would have gone with a new stereo like you suggested Pap, but I really don't like going from 1.5 DIN to 1 DIN, looks tacky...!
