There are some Chrysler radios on ebay that have an aux input added in the face. How do they do this? I currently have an FM modulator but the sound quality isnt good. I'd like to wire in a 3.5mm input but I havnt found where to tap in, disassembly is no problem. Anybody know of any low buck solutions?

If the rear of the OEM radio has standard RCA aux jacks you could plug into those and route to a remote (where ever you want it) 1/8" aux jack.

Absent that to the extent I've seen adapters that add the ability to accept an external signal including thru a 1/8" aux jack they have plugged into the back of the OEM radio where one wires in an external CD player and fool that port into thinking the sound is coming from an external CD player. Exactly how I have no clue. Frankly I wasted a lot of time and $s messing with this approach and finally just tossed my hands up in the air and got a good aftermarket head unit with the front stuff I wanted from Crutchfield.

Would something like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Zo8HEGpkro) work? I have no clue but toss it out there for consideration.

On my Mazda 6 I had an Auxmod installed on the back of the stereo. It was made my Sylfex. Not sure if they make something like that for other vehicles or not. I haven't even looked at the stereo on the Liberty to see what options there are.

I never posted a write up, but it didn't take too much time. Took me awhile to find a system that would work, for a semi affordable price.

Here is what I got:

Terk XMDCHY100

Image

I bought it from Amazon, but it's not longer available.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DV8FHE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can search for them online (just saw one on Ebay for $100 OUCH!) I really dislike Apple's proprietariness, so I didn't want the Iphone adapter. Also, I had to buy a A/V to headphone jack adapter cord, then put it all together. But now I can play anything that has a "headphone out" jack :)

I am running that same setup and it works great.... I have something that you could add to your setup

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=320-355

I have not picked one up yet myself but plan to soon but when I do I am hoping to try it out before I do there warehouse / store is about 15 min from me when I did a when I did a ton of AV work for the church I spent a TON of $$$$$$$ there they would let me try out anything that I was thinking about buying. Come to think about I think I have a little bit of store credit left over

As I mentioned earlier in this chat I wasted a lot of time and $s chasing adapters that actually worked with the OEM radio and would not personally recommend going down that route.

If you do go that route I'd strongly recommend paying extremely close attention to the exact model OEM radio you have and whether or not a potential adapter is "really" compatible with that model radio. I won't pick on specific companies but there is lots of conflicting information out there some of which is being provide directly from the adapter manufactures, been there done that. I would go so far as to say before purchasing post your OEM radio model and the specific adapter(s) you are considering and ask which ones folks have found actually work.

My personal opinion it in the long run it's easier and you will have vastly fewer headaches just going to some place like Crutchfield and getting a radio with the features you want. Generally shipping is free as is the wiring harness and face plate adapter. If you don't have steering wheel controls and are ok with using your iPod or some such to control what plays and don't want bluetooth you can get a name brand unit for well under $100. Going up from there you can get a steering wheel control (I like the Axxess), bluetooth/iPod control, AM/FM, CD changer with all the bells and whistles for no more than $250

The ones on eBay have a single round metal aux input added to the factory radio; they do the same thing to GM radios and charge $100 more than the going price.

Haven't found a writeup for a Chrysler radio, but I've had this one for a GM radio saved for a while:

It took me a while to find that adapter... but it DOES work :)

I would have gone with a new stereo like you suggested Pap, but I really don't like going from 1.5 DIN to 1 DIN, looks tacky...!
