 Post subject: Steering wheel "melting"

I did a search on this and saw it mentioned once. The padding under the leather of my steering wheel started to, what I can only describe as, melt. Black goop is squeezing out through the seems in the leather. I had to buy a steering wheel cover. Anybody know what the deal with this is?

never seen this happen on a jeep i live in south fl i have seen this happen in a Mercedes c class on the controll nobs but not the steering wheel has the steering wheel ever been redone

Yep I have the same problem with the wheel on my WJ
