Just thought I'd share my experience so others don't make the same mistake!

My stock exhaust on my jeep recently rusted through leaving me with no choice but to upgrade. After researching a good bit, the general consensus was to go with a magnaflow muffler.

Boy what a mistake. Now I'm not saying that every magnaflow model sounds bad on our Jeeps but I can verify that this one does. My brother-in-law followed me one day and said it sounded like a Japanese vehicle... So need less to say it was only on for 250 miles before I replaced it.

Magnaflow 11226
Pros:
Increased top-end power
Slightly better gas mileage
Quiet on the highway
Stainless steel

Cons:
Very annoying drone when started bone cold in the mornings
Drone between 1500-2500 rpms at city speeds
Noticeable loss in low end power

Now, enter the Flowmaster 70 series which is made for big block V8 engines. I took a chance finding only 1 review with this model used on a Liberty. Much better! It has a nice deeper than stock rumble to it at idle. It sounds as quiet as stock inside under normal driving, until you hit the pedal. :icon_biggrin: I haven't had it on for more than 50 miles yet so I'll have to keep you updated.

Flowmaster 70 series
Pros:
Sounds awesome, sounds stock inside vehicle in normal RPM ranges
Low end torque is back!
Still has very good high end power, not as much as the magnaflow but much better than stock.
No droning anytime, even on the higway
Gas mileage seems to be same as magnaflow(will update this after more miles)

Cons:
Not stainless steel, it's aluminized steel according to flowmaster
Big muffler, probably not what some offroading guys would want

Now on to the pictures...

Just give it some time
I went the opposite way you did and will never ever run a flowmaster on anything but a large CID V8
But glad you are happy

I agree with you. I had a flowmaster 40 on my explorer and could not stand it at all. (Bought it that way) This one sounds almost like stock, which I didn't think sounded bad to begin with. Anymore I can't stand loud droning exhaust notes and I'm only 26.

Yeah I run a MagnaFlow Ultra Race muffler, very small and compact due to severe space restrictions. It's loud, drones(due to dumping before the rear axle),but doesn't sound like a coffee can muffler on a honda.I'm 35 and pretty much deaf so I like very loud things.

I have a flowmaster 40 and hate it. Sounds buzzy and drones.

Got a video clip? Doesn't look any bigger than the stock one.

No video clip, sorry! I didn't measure it exactly, but I believe if I didn't cut off where the stock one bolted to it would have lined up almost perfectly.
