Your rear brakes are different than mine, but I had to buy one of these to get my drums off. They were seriously glued/rusted onto the studs.

I'm replacing the pads and rotors. I got the right side finished but the rotor is hanging up on the left. I can get it part way out, at least a quarter inch so I can see light between the rotor and the axle, but it's like it is hung up on something. Also, in Youtube videos, they show turning the rear axle by hand when a car is on jack stands. I can't get mine to turn. Is it supposed to? I suctioned out the rear differential a few thousand miles ago and put fresh diff oil in it. Do I need a full diff. job? |

Have you loosed the parking shoes yet? They maybe hanging you up also as far as your rear diff should not make an issue but why siphon it out best to remove the cover , drain, clean out good and refill |

Jan, to state the obvious, parking brake off, transmission in neutral and the rear should spin... As mentioned, pop the plug out out the backing plate and loosen the parking brake to see if that gets the rotor off. Once off, might as well drill the 3 aluminum rivets that hold the backing plate on (if they are even still there) and then get the appropriate bit, tap and stainless screws and replace them. If I recall I used 1/4-20 screws and drilled/tapped all the way through. My "helpful" dealer asked if I was interested in them replacing the "completely rusted, single unit, rear brake assemblies" to the tune of $1100 because 6 lousy rivets failed. Took 45 minutes to fix and about $1.50 in hardware.... |

USPLibby, I see how the tool works, but what is the webbing for? minisub, Oops, transmission wasn't in neutral. I got the rotors off. One was hung up on the parking brake shoe. Now I've found the star wheel so hopefully that won't happen again. |

The nylon ratchet strap that comes with the drum puller keeps the two gripping prongs tight to the drum so that they don't pop off when cranking the bolt. |
