Is the rear tail gate door the same for all models 2002-2007? I have a 2006 CRD, and Colorado DOT tried to push my Liberty off the road by pushing on the spare tire. They collapsed the rear door and blew out the window. I'm looking for a replacement.

You can get the Parts Fiche from the link on Sam's NOOB guide. The 05 and 06 glass has the same PN. The 05 and 06 metal portion has the same root PN but the last letters are different which usually means something is different but the parts will interchange.

FYI you need to look under the "Body sheet metal except doors" section.

If you have a tow hitch, keep the hitch and ball on at all times or invest in one of these. It will keep most bumpers off your spare tire.

Source? Of course 1) anyone who pushes a vehicle on the spare tire mounted on the door has no brains and 2) that might work for car bumpers but when you get rear ended by a dump truck, like I did, that truck bumper is pretty much spare tire high and nothing will help.

Source?? My car was overrun by a flooding canyon on Sept. 11 in Coal Creek Colorado, and I was evacuated by fire rescue. The road completely washed out on both sides of the Jeep, and I was unable to get to it for several days. I am not sure what happened, but I assume that either fire rescue or DOT tried to push the jeep off of the road with another vehicle. I wouldn't have let them do it if I were there, but I had abandoned the vehicle due to the flood. So I'm just guessing that someone pushed it, but I think it's a pretty good guess.

oh, and there was a hitch with a 4" extension so my tongue jack doesn't interfere with the spare. It did nothing, nor would that step that in the above post.

Holy smoke - that sounds like a large amount of fun.

Glad you're alright, at least. :)

My source question was directed at where did USPLibby find the step thing.

FYI once you get the gate and window replaced you can do away with that extended hitch which messes with your tongue weight geometry a bit. Simply remove the spare tire bracket; flip it 180 degrees so bottom and top are reversed; reinstall; now you can use a regular length hitch ball mount. What this does is shift the bottom of the spare closer to the bumper and clear of the hitch ball. If you use a tire cover add some stainless steel shims to the bottom hitch mount bolts to gain a bit of clearance so you can slide the cover under the tire.

Glad you are ok.
