Greetings All,

Just got my first jeep. 1956 M38A1 all stock. I really could use some help getting to know this jeep. Hoping someone who knows these can give a little advice.
Loosening the disributor lock down bolt won't allow distributor to rotate.
Fuel rich exhaust as though one cylinder isn't firing. Spark at all wires but not on electrodes of 3 plugs. Engine runs but missing on at least one.100 lb pressure on all cylinders.
Set points but cant rotate distrib to set timing. Set valves cold tomorrow.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Paul

It sounds like a bad spark plug.

The distributor will turn but I suspect it hasn't in so long and either when installed the shaft wasn't greased or the grease has hardened that it's stuck. Penetrating lube may help.

Bad spark on that type of ignition = condenser, coil, wires, spark plugs.

Best go to http://archive.org/details/TechnicalMan ... ationM38a1 where you can download a free PDF version of the official Tech Manual.

Welcome to LOST!!! You should post some pictures of your M38A1. One of our Jeeps is a 1957 CJ5 we got a few months ago. We tore it down and are in the process of rebuilding it.
