| Post subject: | Front passenger clunk noise |
Noticed recently the KJ has been making a subtle clunk when the front passenger wheel drops- i.e. a rut in the road, a driveway curb, pot holes, etc, just any time that wheel drops (as opposed to going up and over). It also gets a bit louder going 70-75 mph over rougher pavement (like where the road is pitted out). It sounds like the clunk I had when my upper ball joints where bad, but those have been replaced with JBAs and I checked the lower ball joint on that side and couldn't find any play. Even tried using a 2x4 and a 2' long crow bar for leverage. I also checked the tightness of the sway bar bushing mounts, the end links and couldn't find anything loose. Driveability wise it's great, no wandering, no pulling, let go of the wheel and it just goes straight and the tires are wearing normal. A bit of a run on I know, but any thoughts? Thanks! |

I'm sure you've already checked the bolts on the UCAs, also the nuts on the top plate etc ? |

Checked the UCA ones. Didn't check the topplate ones...but those haven't been touched for 3 years. Just thought I would've heard from them by now if that was the issue. But I'll check, I appreciate the help! |

Checked them...they were fine. Broke off the breather hose running from the air box too. |

A bad shock will make a rattling noise. Mine is doing that right now. Can't complain the Frankenlift has been on there for years. |

I had both of my upper strut mount bushings wear out. One of them because the guys that fixed my Liberty after the accident put the washers and boot on the same side instead of "making a sandwich" and the other just wore out with age. They made a clicking/clunk sound when hitting dips in the road that then turned into loud squeaking. |

How hard/expensive are those to replace? I'll have to see if mine start squeaking. As for the shock, it doesn't seem like that to me, I've had two rear ones go bad. |

The top strut mounts were I think $75 each from the dealer and changing them out just took several hours of my time as I have a decent strut compressor. |

I just had the same problem with a new Ironman shock. No drive ability issues just noisy. Mine turned out to be a bad strut rebound valve. |

Did you get this resolved? |

Not yet...it's kind of hard to replicate and doesn't do it all the time. |

You still have the noise or did that fix the issue? I still have mine. I re-torqued the lower ball joints, tie rod end links, sway bar end links and sway bushing mounts. I'll try the upper ball joints next weekend. |
