I got my 08 KK with only one remote key. SO I wanted to get second key to hide on the Jeep in case I lost mine. (anyone have any suggestions for placing a second key? Hide-a-key or tied somewhere?) I found the following out in my search. I found some of this info on the site but not all so I thought I'd share. First off the dealer. They said it would be about $250 for a second remote key. Then I told them I didn't care if it was a remote key and a plain transponder key was fine with me. That was going to cost $100 plus $50 for programing.... Locksmith #1 they quoted me $180 for a remote key and $95 for a basic transponder key I asked if I brought in my own key what it would cost to program, they said $90. I was going to just buy one off of ebay or amazon and have them program it so I could then program my own key going forward. Locksmith #2 (where I went) He "cloned" my key with a plain transponder key for $75. However, I in talking with him this will NOT allow me to program a third key because the Jeep thinks they're the same key. He said he could program a key but that costs a lot more and he would charge $125 for that. I'm not sure it the other locksmith was going to clone or program those keys, and I never asked the dealer if they would program a key you brought in for $50....for some reason I doubt it. I bought keys off eBay for dirt cheap. Have a locksmith program one and then you can program up to six more. I will PM a hiding location Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk |
