| Post subject: | code P0136 |
This is what happened. I was driving up a hill, and the Liberty started stumbling, check engine light (CEL) came on. Check the code using the on-off, and it was P0136, which is a O2 sensor Circuit malfunction (1/2) this is the sensor after the left (driver) mini catalytic. I went ahead and replaced that O2 sensor. Disconnected the battery. I’m still getting the same symptom; it is stumbling like a diesel engine. I was able to drive it around. Right now there is no code, but the symptoms are still in. I did Check wiring, check for continuity, short and everything seems fine, checked the relay also, next step by the diagnostic chart is to replaced the ECM 02 Liberty LTD , 76K miles I called three stealerships 1) Said it needs TB to be cleaned and fuel injectors cleaned $199, I had cleaned my TB twice before this, and always have use the in-tank FI cleaners. $90 to diagnose it. 2) Said it could be Catalytic or needs software update. I think the cat would throe up a different code, this code doesn’t mention anything for the cat just circuit for sensor. The software update might be necessary but why it never failed for 76k miles?? Will charge $50 to reprogram 3) Said I was supposed to change both sensors on that side or all of them. And also flash and update the computer. Will not charge to re program because it is under 80,000 miles. I will drive the jeep to work for a few days to see if the code will pop back on and take it to dealership; I just don’t know which one to take it to. What do you think???? |

In my case, it ended up being that the wiring of the O2 sensor had been rubbing on the driveshaft and got damaged. |

good tip, I only checked the wiring for the indicated sensor, I will have to check the rest too., but it seemed fine. Thanks |

Sounds a little like what happened to my Jetta that turned out to be bad coils and was eventually a recall. Not sure how that could get you to an O2 code tho... I have 0137 on mine right now (I think) which is O2 sensor low voltage... Taking it in right now to get looked at. If something else pops up I'll let you know! |
