So, I got a co-worker, a young kid, who owns a 2005 TJ 2.4, 6speed manual. Who is constantly bashing me for owning my 2002 Renegade... I joke around with him from time to time, but this is getting ridiculous... I know that we often get made fun off for owning a "Grocery getter" but, as I stated to him, except for an independent suspension, why in a world would my lifted KJ be any less of a jeep then this bone stock TJ? Just venting... I like my KJ.. |

I can relate to that but down here the KJ is seen as a very good outback touring vehicle - and by outback I am talking about tens of thousands kilometres of badly corrugated dirt tracks, washouts and floodways. My particular KJ led a JK out of fifty kilometres of mud after bing flooded in the desert - it did so because it was the most capably fitted out for the job. TJ's are probably the most uncomfortable Jeep to travel any distance. The last outback trip I did the TJ on the trip boke down at least three times. TJ owners like to spray other models but when they break, which they inevitably seem to do, they will be grateful for a KJ to tow them out. |

Well, I try not to hate on other people's vehicles.... So making fun of his 2.4L minivan engine would not be nice.

Some folks have to try and tear others down to build themselves up. I've had a few say things about mine, but for every one that makes a "bad" comment, I've had 20 others tell me how bada** mine is So to the few I don't care |

I had dreams of owning a TJ at one point. Got in one a few times last year, but after owning the KJ, that will never happen. Uncomfortable for sure. You should invite him to go wheeling sometime with you. He needs to quit reading JP magazine, and actually go for ride sometime. He'd lose the hate for the KJ. |

To each his own. Not every vehicle is right for every person. Rise above it and offer to take him on a backcountry trip so he can see how well it does. He might just have the "immature kid" thing going and learn something from the experience. Dan |

I've owned a XJ,TJ and a WJ and I can say the KJ is the best jeep I owned yet, while not better then my TJ off road ( 3 inch lift on 33's ) it is the best daily driver and best in the bad weather way better then the wj was and tj. |

I experienced that bias today when I actually brought it to a local Jeep Dealer in my area. He was a young kid and thought he "knew" what he was talking about. Needless to say he was educated before I left and not only by me but also his supervisor. I actually even wrote a post about it. |

When you get it built up some take it back When I drive mine through the dealerships I get stopped just so they can say " Thats how they should of came from the factory!" |

Every time I go to the dealership, I hear the same two comments; The first is from a couple of guys who've worked there quite awhile, "Dude, that's still the most awesome Liberty i've ever seen." The second is always directed at the newbie salesmen from the old timers; "Don't bother... he's never gonna sell it." |

I find that many offroad guys, both in person and on the internet, can be very narrow minded. If it isn't a Chevy, Ford, Dodge or Wrangler, they find comfort in all bashing a KJ. Not to mention, many first time 4 wheelers have taken a bone stock Liberty 4x4, with an open front and rear differential, little or no driving experience and tries to do things with one front wheel and one rear wheel spinning. And they always do it while someone is recording the laughable carnage. Then it makes it on youtube. So it feeds on itself. Sure a stock Wrangler with an experienced driver can do more than a stock KJ driven by a newb. But now days, there are tons of videos out with really impressive footage of KJs doing stuff. Just blow it off, know they are bashing your KJ because they suffer from small johnson syndrome. |

I think most of us experience it. I often get "you did good for a Liberty." (I did good for a Jeep They're just jealous that they need a solid axle and 33"s to keep up with us on 31"s. I have made it up things that JK's JKU's and TJ's on 32"s & 33"s didn't . Its honestly mostly Line, driver experience, tires, traction control systems (BLD, LS, Lockers etc.), and clearances and angles. You can also remind them that your KJ does more trails than most mall crawler and soccer mom JK's. They should be changing their tune in a couple of years if the next wrangler is unibody with IFS.Most of them are just ignorant and have pride in the Jeep name. The pride I understand, I also occasionally have the same animosity towards the MK's, KL's and WK2's, but I just have to remind myself it's not what rig you buy, its what rig you build and what you do with it. I have mad respect for a guy who wheels a patrion or KL. |

I get the same crap from the XJ and Wrangler owners. I told them I'm going to get a coil lift and their response was "Woah they make that for the Liberty?" It's just ignorance that's unneeded. Could Jeep survive making only Wranglers? It could be possible but I doubt it. A stock Liberty seems just as capable as a Wrangler sport. I don't have any hate for the MK or KL because I know they are dealing with the same. Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk |

You know, this is one of the reasons this board exists. All KJ owners have gone through this. To me, it was one of my favorite parts of owning a KJ. Letting some guy talk smack about my Jeep, only to see his face as I pull up at the end of a very tough trail, was priceless. I have a JK Rubicon now, but I still miss my old KJ (Got totaled in a rear end collision). I have great respect for anyone who is willing to mod what they have and wheel it. Whether it be a Liberty, A new Renegade, Cherokee, or whatever. Supposed "street Jeeps" are always my favorite rigs to watch on a trail. It's boring to watch a Jeep with a 4.5" lift and 35" tires go through a tough spot. It's much more entertaining to watch a smaller rig do it, and *in my opinion* it takes much more skill. |

Mine IS a grocery getter. I use it for that, towing, and plowing. For the purchase price of a kj with no issues, I can and have done better in the offroad world. I have no issues with the kj, but for the cost of lifts compared to those of a tj or xj, it will never be as capable as any other jeep older than a tj. There is nowhere near as much cost effective modifiability to a kj as many other jeep options, this is why " true" jeepers do not like them. I love mine, but I harbor no fantasies on what it is. |

"true Jeepers" WTH is a true Jeeper ? Keep hearing that ................ I've had everything from old Willys/ XJs/ YJs etc over the last 40 plus years but now that i drive a KJ I'm not a " true Jeeper " That line comes from those driving a new JK with 35s / stock gearing/ stock spare hanging off the back going to and from the hardware store for watch batteries |

It'll do great as a replacement for that 35... Seriously, I'd rather see no spare hanging off the back than a stocker once they started spinning 35s/37s. Atleast if it's not hanging on the back they can bs you and tell you it's inside, you just can't see past the limo tint

The naysayers, the people against liberties or newer model vehicles. I'm not against them, I simply do not have any intent for them that involves the term "offroad", because I know I can do better. Understand, though, that I don't even wheel a jeep anymore. Not worthwhile. I'm in the middle of a s/c buick 3800 buggy build, using d60 front and rear and twin stick low geared Dana 300 tcase. I'm done building an existing vehicle to suit my needs. It's time to build the vehicle around the parts I want. |
