"Why are Jeeps being made in Italy? Partly, because that’s where the production capacity is; Chrysler has little to spare, and Fiat has large empty plants with large staffs of experienced engineers and workers. Renegade is expected to sell mainly outside North America, as is Fiat 500X. Other Jeeps will continue to be made in the U.S. As a side note, since taking over Chrysler, Fiat has moved production of engine blocks, cams, crankshafts, and numerous other parts from Mexico and China to the United States, and sells American-made Fiat Freemonts and Lancias worldwide; the overall impact of Fiat’s efforts has been a massive increase in American jobs and manufacturing." |
