Used the search and could only find one post about it with only 3 replies so I thought I'd bring it up and see what the consensus is on going the DIY route. I've looked into the dial type inch-pound torque wrenches and would rather not drop $100+ on a wrench I'm likely to only use once. Has anyone found a way around using that wrench to get the rotating torque dialed back in when you replace the pinion seal ?? I'm thinking I have the rest of the hand tools to get the job done if not for the annoying part about measuring the rotating torque of the pinion so that the crush spacer isn't damaged when putting everything back together. Thanks...

OK is this the recommended way to do it........NO
Does it work.....yes
Remove pinion nut, making sure to count them number of turns it comes off exactly. ( mark with paint etc so you don't lose count) Pop out the seal , clean/ replace with new seal and then reinstall nut same number of turns as when you removed. I always use some loctite on the nut as well.

Thank you good sir, it's greatly appreciated !! The seal isn't dripping on the garage floor yet but I have noticed it slung some fluid up onto the rear axle tunnel so I think it needs replaced.

Before you replace it drain the gear oil and put in some 85w-140 non-syn oil and run it.Watch it over the next few weeks, make sure to clean the area well.I've stopped weeping diff seals by just using 85w-140 non-syn gear oil, plus it's better for the diff anyways.

Thanks !! Any particular brand that you have had the best results with or will just any 'ole non-syn. 85w-140 do. Would this also be a good idea for the front diff. as well ??

I use Valvoline or Lucas, both are good. You can run 85w-140 in the front,it's up to you.
