| Post subject: | Swapping in Heated Seats |
I have a 2005 Limited that came with leather power seats from the factory. I want to add heated seats. I can't seem to find the factory kit anywhere so I guess I'll have to find a set from a part-out. Will the seats from any KJ work or do I need to find a set from a 2005 only? What about KK front seats? Anyone have a wiring diagram that shows how it is set up from the factory? I'm hoping this will be plug and play or minimal wiring at worst. |

You can a copy of the FSM and parts fiche at http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/ . The FSM has wiring diagrams that may or may not help. I honestly do not know if DCJ ever sold a kit or if you can put the parts together from the parts fiche. As far as swapping seats. Yes you can swap in the seats from probably any KJ assuming of course that you can find heated seat(s) in acceptable condition. That said as I recall from discussions over on the CRD side of the forum you will have to swap over the airbag sensor(s) from your current seats to the replacement seats. I assume you want to keep the leather seat which may significantly narrow the range of used seats although you could swap your current leather seat covers to the new seats. Given all the work involved I suggest you give serious consideration to after market seat heater kits which are readily available for under $100 per seat in either a fit over style (fits on the outside of your existing seat cover) or fit inside (would require removal and re-installation of you existing seat cover). I've done OEM seat cover installs and it's not a big deal if you want to go with the fit inside option (just removal and install of a bunch of "hog" rings); alternatively a car upholstery place would probably do the job for like 1 hour labor per seat if you brought the seat to them. |

Thanks for the link to the FSMs...that should come in handy. I prefer to use the factory option so that is what I am going to attempt first. A junkyard about 30-45 minutes from me has a set of heated seats from an 03. I went to look at them today and took some pics of the wiring underneath the seats. If I can figure out how to make them work I'll go back and get them this weekend. |

I've considered this too...same 05 Limited with leather power seats but not heated. Mine has a fuse for them though, so I'm wondering if it has the wiring there. Please keep us posted! |

So I removed my drivers seat today and pulled back the carpet. The plug for the heated seat is not there as I had hoped it would be. However it looks like the wiring is all there, I'll just have to grab the plug from the donor vehicle and splice into the harness. I was thinking about grabbing the entire harness from the donor but mine goes up behind the junction box to god knows where so it would probably be more of a hassle to try and get it than it would to modify my existing harness. |
