Any differences between years? I searched and saw that tanks varied between 18.5, 19.5 and 20.5 gallons and some years had some emissions stuff in the tank that are not removable. Was there actually a physical difference between them? I know on my YJ all tanks were 20 gallons even though most (except Sahara and maybe Renegade) were listed as 15. A filler hose prevented you from filling the tank past 15 gallons. Remove the hose and you could actually use all 20 gallons. Of course the fuel gauge would be off unless you swapped in the 20gal fuel sending unit as well. What I am wondering is if I can swap tanks with any other year KJ? |

Besides the capacity they are all the same as far as mounting and pumps.2 gallons is not by any means a huge difference in actual size of the tanks. For $800+ for just the tank 2 gallons more is not a lot of gain. |

I was actually looking at the 30-31 gallon long range tank from LRA in Australia. I have a friend who is there doing stuff with the Australian military and will be coming back soon. He can put the tank with his other belongings and save me the shipping charges. I emailed LRA and they said: "Unfortunately, the KJ replacement tank is not suitable for vehicles built after 2003. This is because the emission components are built into the tank and cannot be transferred from one to another." I'm not sure if that is a diesel thing or an Australian thing or if our tanks were the same too. |

You can look up the part numbers for the fuel tanks between in the part fiche for various years and see if the part number is changed. A dealer could help you here too. 30 gallons of fuel would be awesome. |

Well I looked up some part numbers and it is a little confusing as they aren't listed as being for either gas or diesel and they change pretty much every year. There was one tank used for 05 and 06 that stayed the same and another from 05 to 07. From 04 to 06 one tank is about $400 more than the other so maybe that is the built in emissions stuff LRA was talking about but for 07 both tanks are about the same price again so IDK. I sent them a follow up email and got this reply: "The tank is suitable for all diesels but up to 2003 only for the Petrol." So I guess you CRD guys and 02-03 gassers can have a 30+ gallon tank but not the rest of us. Damnit. |
