| Post subject: | Ac compressor noise |
So on the way home from work yesterday I started to hear a noise from the engine bay, like something was loose and rattling. Pulled over and and it is the front of the ac compressor. When the ac is on the noise is worse. I also saw the tensioner jumping up and down a little bit. I drove it home with no issues other than the noise. So is my problem the tensioner or the ac compressor or both or something else? |

Take off the serpentine and start spinning some pulleys. |

Ugh, so my wife had to take the dog to the vet today. When she came back she told me the ac stopped blowing cold air and then there was a burning smell and some smoke came from under the hood. I take another look and now there is some black goo on the ac compressor and splattered on the alternator. I'm guessing the compressor clutch went out? I was hoping it was just the tensioner cause that is relatively cheap and easy to replace. Now I'm thinking I'll have to replace the ac compressor which is much more expensive. |
