Post subject:  Help horn not working???

hello all im a noob to my jeep CRD. I bought it a week ago and i didn't realize that the horn was not working on it. I never work on electrical stuff so I have no clue what I am doing. when I press the horn button it feels like I'm just preset soft plastic in and it doesn't make any clicking noises? any ideas? the horn itself is working.

Check fuse 1 (15 A) at the fuse panel inside the cabin

Disconnect your battery and place the red battery lead to ground so that any stray charge is dissipated...wait for about 20 minutes and then remove the center cover over the steering wheel.....the above is to make sure the airbags do not go off in your face by accident!

Have a look at the horn switch to see if there is any obvious problem...my horn button does not have any definite "click" to it.

How do you know the horn itself is working?...did you apply +12 volts direct to it?

There is a relay for the horn that may need swapping out...located on the rear of the internal fuse panel...central small relay in a group of 9 small relay slots.. or at worst the clock-spring inside the steering wheel section may be faulty....download the correct year KJ Service Manual here....includes circuit diagrams and locations of the Horn Relay etc.
