Was changing the rear diff fluid and this came out...

What is it? The KJ has been driving just fine and acting normally. Is this an issue?

Thanks

There aren't any metal shavings in the old fluid either...and that piece is metal, not RTV or anything.

It's hard to say what it really is. Looks like it could be part of a bearing cage or if you have a rear factory LSD it may be from the friction discs.

I don't have the factory LSD...it's just open. Should I be worried about it? Or would it be ok to put it back together? Seems to drive normally.

if it seems to operate normally slap'er back together and keep an ear out for roaring and such, maybe cut your fluid change interval in half and keep an eye out for leaking at the pinion,(driveshaft side) given its general diameter assuming it wasnt "cold rolled" a couple times through the gears, i have a suspicion that's where it came from

I checked it against the pinion gear and once they were side by side the piece was a different diameter/radius/thickness...but it'll all together right now so I'll see how it goes!

I was thinking more of the inner race going towards the drive shaft or the axle, heck maybe it's some sort of remnant from the tube area that didn't fully sheer out during casting and forming , I've found pieces like that when putting axles in a new housing but nothing that large it's almost like a ripped off c clip that's been rolled out but it isn't formed correctly to have been a c clip make sure troys seen this he will probably have a better idea
