Hey folks - I'm getting a shop to do my oil pan that rusted out...it's leaking about a half quart per week, not too bad, but getting worse and I'd hate to get stranded somewhere. Of course until I figured out what needs to be done to replace it, I thought I could do it in my garage in under an hour. HAHA. :?

SO, while it's there, any suggestions on what else to inspect or replace?

TIA

Say what year is your Jeep?
Is it a KJ?

The oil pan on my 04 KJ rusted out last year. After looking at the job and what it involved I decided to take it to my local garage.
It took them all day to do the job.
They had to raise the engine and drop the axle. Imagine

I bought a new oil pan and gasket from Mopar and let me tell you the new oil pan was pretty thin. I sure hope I don't have to replace it again.

I don't think you can do very much or look for much with the oil pan off. Maybe look for metal filings in the old pan.

on my KK the shop took like 6 hours to do it. Didn't need to raise engine, just disconnect the 4x4 and half the front suspension.

Hey guys,

Sorry, 03 KJ, thought I had a sig, but it's not there...I'll update it.

It was there overnight, the guy didn't start on it til later in the day. What a PITA. At least it's not in the air in my garage with me going :banghead: :furious:
It's done now, he's just bolting it back up. I asked him to throw on some new front sway bar bushings. Not too many other things to replace down there.

I don't think I'll have this issue again before it's sold even if way in the future since I have a skid to protect it from salt etc. I think I will pay special attention to cleaning the underside after this.

cheers
