So my last major problem, is the tailgate acts up every now and then. When you go to unlock the vehicle all the doors unlock except the tailgate. You go to pull the handle and the glass will pop open but the rear tail gate just "clicks" and won't open. Is this the part I need to fix it: http://www.moparpartsstore.com/jeep/lib ... ator-motor If not, what do I need? Thanks! Not my jeep, but this is exactly what its doing.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UL1ORJteOA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3KMxiVLGz8 |

Are you sure the switch is not just sticking? The KJ I found for my Step Father the lady said the switch in the tail gate was messed up, mechanic wanted 350 to fix. I talked her down on price due to that and speedo not working Replaced wiring on speedo, cleaned and lubed the switch for the gate and no more issues since |

I guess it could, I'll have to pull the cover back off and peak around. I replaced my multifunction switch last night due to the lights flickering at times and dome lights would stay on every now and then. All seems good with those issues. I'm still tracking down a battery issue, however the battery seems to staying at 12 volts now since the new switch, but back log something was causing the battery to loose voltage every November when it starts to get cold out. I did parasitic drain test and its in factory spec as in nothing was draining on the battery. I have done it a couple times and gotten the same numbers. The battery is just a year old also. So thats why I replaced the MFS and I'm planing to replace what ever is wrong in the tail gate so hopefully that fixes the battery issues... |

Ok question after reading that This morning when I got home after driving the jeep I got out and for some reason went to pull on the tail gate handle and it opened but didn't release the glass I shut it, went to the drivers door hit the unlock button, went back to the tail gate, pulled the handle again which popped the glass and the gate opened again just fine. However my question is this, I believe it should of been locked the first time like the rest of doors right? I don't think its locking when its supposed too. I also don't hear it lock when its supposed to at times. That glass always pops open fine when you go to unlock the jeep and then pull on the tailgate handle. Its the tail gate that doesn't always unlock, or now lock when its supposed too. I googled that part number for what I posted above and it pictures exactly what I was fiddling with, the actuator/ latch mechanism just below the handle. May pick one of those up next paycheck. I think the microswitch you speak of is fine, It was doing what it was told. The rest of the doors were locked and it thought the tailgate was locked. When I hit the unlock button it released the glass as it should of. Get what I'm saying? What do you think? *edit* I thought I also remember reading in my FSM that, that lock switch back there grounds the whole door lock system for the power door locks to the BCM, if it was shorting out to ground wouldn't that pop the fuse like I get at times? The power door lock fuse blows at times but now that I think the tailgate door switch is so bad it just plain old doesn't work anymore.. |
