Post subject:  Radio Speaker Wiring - FSM is NOT correct!--ARGH

So, putting in my Polk Audio speakers this Holiday. I have a BASE radio with a Sirius Sat receiver in the rear right QP. According to the FSM WIRING diagram, base radios do not use the rear door speakers. In the audio section, they say the base DOES have rear door speakers. So, I remove ALL the door panels and the dash pad for the dash speakers (they are NOT tweeters from the factor..no CROSSOVER in the FSM wiring. Matter of fact, if you don't have the Amp (I don't)..the front dash speakers are just tapped in parallel with the SAME wire color as the front doors. NOPE..not the same.

So, I have to ohm out and trace all the wires to make sure I get the polarities correct. Not to mention, since the wire colors are DIFFERENT in the dash..It looks like I will need to run NEW wires to dah from the Polk crossover.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! ARGH! :)

Yep there are usually plenty mistakes in the FSM wiring diagrams...from the 2002 models upwards.

I have learnt not to believe everything the circuit diagrams or the Theory of Operations state but to check everything out carefully with a meter.....I have often printed out circuit diagrams and made corrections to them before uploading them to the various Jeep forums when helping out KJ owners with electrical problems but even then I sometimes get caught out because I only have physical access to my 2002 Export CRD and not the newer, USA, LHD 3.7 gassers or CRDS.

Speaker wiring just about drove me screaming up the wall when I replaced my failing premium speakers.

I wasted way too much time worrying about +/- terminals and fiddling with the 1.5v battery trick to determine which is which to avoid out of phase speakers. FORGET all that and just get a Metra electronics harness model 72-6514 (Best Buy SKU 7994771 or available much cheaper via Amazon) for the rear speakers (might work for fronts on the non-premium system). That harness plugs straight into the OEM wiring and has quick disconnect fittings that plug straight onto the standard (as marked on the new speakers) + large male terminal and - small male terminal. By "standard" I mean all car speakers that I've ever seen use a + large male terminal and - small male terminal even in +- are not marked.

Papa,
Since I was installing a component system for front (REAL tweeters on dash pad) and coaxial s in rear doors. I wanted to make sure there wasn't ANYTHING else wrong with FSM (like a hidden choke/crossover somewhere).

I used a power probe that has a beeper module internal. When you hook something to the ground clip, it beeps. I traced all the wiring and installed all six speakers.

I put the crossovers in the front kick panels and tapped into the wiring for the fronts behind the kick panels near where the wiring goes through to the doors.

The Polk speakers were a great fit and sound awesome with my new stereo.

Parts used:

Sony MEX-GS810BH - Radio
Scosche CR1277B/CR1277 - Radio mounting single DIN install kit
Scosche CR02B - Radio Main connector pigtail
Scosche CRAB/CRA - Radio antenna adapter
Polk DB6501 - Front Component System
Polk DB651 - Rear Coaxials

My Limited had a Sirrus receiver in rear right quarter panel with factory antenna on rear center of roof. So, I decided to use the existing antenna with my XM Snap radio!

XM Sirius Coax Satellite Radio Extension Cable SMB M/F Str8/Angle to GPS Antenna
