i have an 03 liberty sport, and i was wondering if many of you have done very much towing with your liberty such as a travel trailer and how long and how heavey?

I towed a CJ5 on a dual axel car hauler back in november... i would not recommend that, it made it the 200 highways miles... but i wouldnt recommend it... i got new rotors shortly after... i didnt have the tow package... just the hitch on the rear... hope this helps

i have a 04 renegade.. i moved over 250miles away from where I used to live to western NC mountains..rented a U-haul 6x12 trailer.. i didnt have any problem on major hwy 40 or smaller 2 lane local hwys.. the trailer was packed full.. I drove it to my new house.. unloaded.. and then drove back to my old house the same night.. the only problem I had was it swayed a little with 18-wheelers passed.. other then that.. no problem at all.. just took off overdrive and no probs.. even going up steep inclines to my house on private dirt/gravel road..

my buddy did same thing w/his 05 renegade.. he drove further then i did.. no problems..

Be careful when towing with the libby. Its a brute when towing but I wouldnt go over 4k with it. It says it can do 5k but I would not want to get into any hills with that much(I would with the CRD though). The book also says a max length of 25 feet. With as camper that long I WOULD have a WD set-up and a anti sway set-up.

i was looking at the hi-lo trailers and the dry weight is around 2650lb. so i probably won't be over 3500 when loaded. the trailer is a 17ft. collapsable.

I towed a camper to Moab and back. So did Ted (USAFCOP). No problems except going into the mountains. We had the pedal down all the way and only going 30 mph up some seriously LONG and STEEP inclines. Other than those massive climbs, the Liberty's did great towing them (just make sure weight distribution is correct in the camper).

I wouldnt worry about that at all. Unless you hit some hills you will not be able to tell its back there.

I tow with my KJ alot. I work it hard. I pull a 5x10 flatbed. It has 2 JOBOX's mounted on it, 1 full of tools and one full of parts. On the rest of the trailer, 1 spare, 3 to 4 rolls of copper pipe, 1 6' ladder, and at times 2 A/C units. I'm guessing 2500 to 3000 lbs. Pulls goot. Make sure you have an electric brake controller. I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy, that's what I use. Also, turn the O.D. off. If I needed to, I'd tow 5,000 lbs with mine.

I've towed a bit with mine. Most was 1,100 miles towing a 16' Featherlite dual axel trailer with a Miata from OK to Mid-Ohio and back. No problems at all, except for a blown tire and a slightly deformed fender! Numerous trips to Iowa and back with a utility trailer and motorcycles. No major complaints.

Stopping is a major limitation on how much I pull. I don't have a factory towing pkg and don't have a trailer brake system of any kind, so I try to keep it below 3500lbs. With a trailer brake I couldn't see 4000lbs-5000lbs being a problem.

I wouldn't trust any short wheelbase vehicle to pull over 3500 without trailer brakes.
The weight being towed CAN AND WILL STEER THE TOWING VEHICLE IN A FAST STOP.
BE CAREFUL.

The most weight I've had on my Liberty so far is 6,870 lbs. Towed like a dream. Rarely ever shifted out of overdrive. I do have a trailer brake controller though.

I tow a 2,800 lbs boat with my STICK SHIFT Rene. No problems, but I will say that the short wheelbase does make a difference. I used to tow it with my old Rodeo which was very stable. With the Liberty, I get more of the "tail wagging the dog" symptoms. The trailer takes much less steering imput to go into fishtail mode, so make all turns, lane shifts, etc. very slowly and deliberately. One nice advantage of the short wheelbase is the maneuverability. I can back down any ramp in one try. It's so easy to correct for mistakes on a vehicle with a tight tow radius.
