Does anyone use speed bleeders? If so what size did you use in the front? I used them on my Excursion and my mustangs in the past. But the website said 3824 was the size for front and rear. I had a not so productive day with the jeep. I installed powerslot rotors and pads today on the rears and the speed bleeders work great even though they are a hair longer than stock. Unfortunately I didn't have anywhere to properly bed the brakes, so I did it on surface streets, pissing off the locals. On the front, not so much. I found the speed bleeder would barely start to thread in before stopping so it clearly doesn't fit. So I went to bleed the brakes as is and after the rears were done my (ten year old) motive bleeder ruptured a line as I was leaning over it to look at the fluid level spraying me and the jeep. After rinsing my face and frantically wiping down the fenders so the paint doesn't come off I finished and the brakes will need rebleeding, once I find out what the right speed bleeder is for the front. I got an ALL J interior rack and it is nice. Unfortunately I had an issue installing that today ( i guess this my three) and I am waiting for monday for them to return my message. I really want to get it in, it will be very useful in the jeep. I wish I had one in the Subaru I use for work. |

I have 2 sets of 3824's I have't installed yet. I'm interested as well to find out what size is correct. |

3/8-24... on the front, without a doubt...looking at a package of bleeders as I type this...I just bought regular bleeder screws to replace the speedbleeders I put on less than a year ago.. Although, I'll have to say they were not the name brand Russel Speedbleeders they were Dorman....I thought they were great the first time I used them...I had to replace a brake line, due to it rusting, and coming apart where the hard line at the caliper joins soft line...I've had both of my factory brake lines come apart at that junction...not due to abuse...the hard line rusts under the soft line...When I replaced the passenger side line, and tried to bleed the brakes, nothing would come through the bleeder valve. In less than a years time the check valve in one of the Dorman speedbleeders was seized....I can't say anything about the quality of the ORIGINAL speedbleeders by Russel...When I couldn't bleed my brakes I thought I had some serious issue...turned out to be simple...Seems like I paid $12 for the Dorman version of speedbleeders, and I just bought a new pair of regular bleeder screw for $2.13....Unless you need new bleeders, I say save your money...slip a piece of hose over the bleeder screw, slide the other end into bottle with enough brake fluid to cover the end of your hose / tubing through a tight fitting hole in the lid...don't screw the lid on tight...the air you're bleeding out has to go somewhere...loosen the bleeder, pump the brake pedal, make sure your master cylinder doesn't go dry, and that your home made one person bleeder hasn't filled completely full, and is spewing brake fluid all over your driveway... |

Actually the speed bleeders have always worked well for me. I don't have friends around to help so they are very useful. That and the fronts are partly rounded off and I want to replace them. If they will fit I will give it another shot. Then all I need is new brackets for the rack and I'm good to go. |
