So just put in Napa reman CVs and intermediate shaft, new shocks, new springs and new upper ball joints. I get a knocking sound/feeling (can feel it in floor /steering wheel) on occasion when turning left. It only does it maybe 5 times in a turn (not constant) and seems to do it in the midrange of the steering arc (doesn't do it during a slight turn or a full lock turn). It seems more pronounced in 4 full time. Bumpy roads seem to set it off too. First instinct was to pull the driver's side cv, don't really find anything wrong with it, not sure what to look for though. Took a pic of inside the diff too, looks ok to me.

Did you get the right CVs from NAPA, they have different lengths and some of the sales guys know noting which ones they take

But alas, the problem there is; Once you turn in the OE's, neither do you. Unless you can get a MOPAR parts counter man to run your VIN and give you part #.

Not positive but recall right turn knocking = passenger side, left turn = drivers side.

But it comes in from the driver's side floor? I gave them at Napa the info...3.7 4x4 wouldn't that give me the right one?

And it sometimes does in a right turn too. Basically it won't do it if I'm going straight on a smooth road. :-)r

I guess i'm was confused. Your initial post appeared like you replaced right side CV and intermediate shaft. But now I understand you replaced both CV axle shafts and the intermediate shaft.

Correct. Got another new driver's side CV from napa today, will see if that fixes it.

The second replacement driver's side CV seemed to fix the hard knock...knock on wood.

However, with the windows down, I still hear an occasional tick. 4WD doesn't effect it, turning either way can, usually ticks 3 times then stops. Can take it through the same spot and it'll click, do another trial and it'll be completely silent.

why wouldn't you know?

The fitment seems fine...went in fine, the angles look fine. If they were the wrong length, would it have gone back together noticeably worse?

In your post you said there were 3 different lengths. Without the old one to measure, how is the owner to know the correct length any more than the parts counter guy?

Wouldn't the parts catalog know based on the info they needed?

Post subject:  Re: Knocking during turns

almost all of the NEW cvs are the wrong length

this is the reason why most of us have stuck with napa REMANS
between the boots being better quality and actually knowing the napa remans are the correct length whatever cost saving if any isn't worth the wondering, just check the websites and use napa remans as the guide. it doesn't take much length difference for it to bind or disengage. sorry you're having a headache with it

and as for the parts catalog, no it doesn't know. all it knows is what part manufacturers list for compatibility. even napa sells NEW cvs and they too are the wrong length

These are remans from Napa...I'm thinking it's not a CV issue as 4WD doesn't effect it, even in 4LO. But it's not doing the hard clunks anymore so I'm content

Have you checked the front propeller shaft? That upper CV joint goes out when the dust boot comes apart and exposes the joint to the air/dust.

I rebuilt mine with the kit that people have mentioned here.
