Our 02 Liberty had the LBJ replaced during the recall at about 15,000 miles. Last month the left side broke and the dealer replaced it (with the same junk).
I had Moog's installed last week at Belle Tire and the shop saved the old B/joints.
The right one was broke and it looked like it had been hit with a giant ball peen hammer in a few places. AND THERE WAS NO NOISE AT ALL.

Those stock ball joints are gonna bite ya.

Would the ball joints going make the steering harder? Lately my steering feels like it does when my locker is engaged but I'm in two wheel drive.

Thinking back about the steering......this is the wife's Liberty and I only drive it a couple times a week......

Before the left side B/joint broke the steering did have a feel like the power steering belt could be slipping, but no noise. A day or two later the ball joint failed and the left front collapsed.

I couldn't believe the right one was broken also when the shop called while installing the Moog's.
(This was after the dealer replaced the left one) It didn't make any noise at all and the steering was normal.

I'll never trust a sealed B/joint again, on any vehicle.

Highground,

PLEASE file a complaint with the NHTSA
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

Jeep just keeps replacing the ball joints with the same failure prone ones. So far 44 complains on 2004 KJs and even complaints regarding replacement joints. This is a safety issue and if Jeep doesnt get this fixed it is bound to get someone killed.
