Door lock / Ignition lock question:

Edited to remove info and make PALiftedKK's life easier.
:wink:________________________________

I've got the '06 in my sig.
I bought it with one single chipped & remote door lock key.
I just bought 2 more chipped & remote door lock key blanks from Ebay.
Before I have the blanks programmed and cut -->

Would the door locks and ignition lock still turn/function if I was to take all the pins out and omit them completely?
-- Alternately - I could insert a blank and grind the excess pin material flat to mimic a correct key/pin pair. --
This would defeat the 'security' and theoretically enable them to unlock/open with a completely uncut blank from the key-cutting rack at HD/Lowes/etc., but it wouldn't allow them to START the vehicle, so I'm in no worse of a position than if the wily thief had a brick or coathanger rather than any random jeep key.

Yes, I completely understand the implications of the above 'security' issue.
otoh, me, and anyone who reads this post would be among the fewer than 10 million souls in on the secret, but I'm pretty sure that none of you know who I am or where I live, so I'm not going to lose much sleep over being tracked down.

The point is that I'm going to hide a correctly chipped key inside the jeep to be able to start it and get me home in the event of a failure to keep a key in my immediate control.
This will ensure that just about anywhere I have access to a hardware store - I can get into the pig without damage with a blank...

Just kicking this around in my brainpan, and short of dissembling a door and the column and finding the answer is 'NO', (and youtube has scads of vids on how to change pins but no vids on omitting pins,) I figured I'd ask first to see if anyone already knew.

Thanks for indulging me, and for any help, info, comments, etc.

Crasher,
I get what you are saying, but there has got to be a better to do it.

Personally, I would keep a cut, unchipped key in my wallet or phone case.

I'm a minimalist.

I have a dumb flip phone, and all I carry is an RFID sleeve with my D/L and a single cred card in it.

I'll try to answer:
1. the KJ has a 2 step security system assuming of course that your 06 has the OPTIONAL sentry key system. If it lacks the SKS you have only a 1 step security system, you may be able to check if you have an SKS by the behavior of its indicator light and consulting your owners manual. Step 1 is a standard key, if you pull the pins in the door and ignition tumbler then the car probably can be unlocked AND started with a key blank. At this point it gets tricky; if you lack the SKS system then you lack the vehicle immobilization function and the car can be driven. Step 2 is the SKS/chipped key which must be recognized for the car to run longer than like 10 seconds. IMHO what you want to do is nuts but that's just me.
2. "I bought it with one single chipped & remote door lock key. I just bought 2 more chipped & remote door lock key blanks from Ebay." If I am reading this correctly you have a functional key fob (cut key in key head with chipped remote lock/unlock/etc buttons) and 2 similar units (key not cut and fob not programmed to the VIN). Two comments - 1) at least with the "dumb" chipped keys (chipped but no fobs) the 05 won't work in an 06 and vice versa; don't know about the fobbed keys; and 2) the cheapest way to deal with your situation would have been to just get 2 dumb chipped keys then cut both and program 1, see below for programming the 2n.
3. Any good key shop can cut the key and program 1. Then you will have 2 valid keys at which point you can consult your owners manual on how to use 2 valid keys to program a 3rd key.

I just hid an unchipped key behind the license plate. The screws are easy enough to remove with something as generic as a stick, a penny, or a piece of wire bent into a circle (I've used all three). That key gets me into the car where my other key had better be. I don't lock my keys on very often, but it's nice to have an easy way in without busting a window or calling a locksmith.

Just drill out the hole in the metal unchipped key big enough for the screw. It's invisible until you remove the screw and it drops into your hand. Don't get the keys with plastic heads.
