The CRD is ready for tires. Looking to see what some of you run, mostly highway driving and towing for me. Any suggestions? Often in rural areas also, would like to drive with ease on snow covered roads

Thanks for the input

Ben

Firestone destination A/T's are another worth looking at.

Hankook RF10 ATM E-load.
- very solid sidewall (surprise!)
- so far, seem to be long-wearing
- great traction off-road, deep lugs, well spaced, self-cleans mud well.
- quiet on hwy
- Heavy though.
-no experience on snow/ice with these (yet)

I had Grabbers in 235/70/16
- only 'pretty good' for traction. Nothing outstanding, but they probably won't leave you stranded either.
- didn't like the handling, but it might have been due to the size/load.
- due to the tight tread pattern, they don't self-clean mud very well. Wet snow self-cleaning was pretty good. Not wonderful on ice and packed snow. Necessitates 4wd or you will slip. Even on wet roads, I found there was far less traction than the ATMs.
- they did not last very long - 35,000 kms...but I generally change tires well before they get to the wear bars. I could have done another 10k, but still...that's not much.
- louder than the ATMs
- BUT they are a bit cheaper than the ATMs.

Whatever you get, make sure you get it with the snowflake rating, some sizes don't have it.

Duratrac and BFG KO2's are the only tires I'll ever run.

Duratracs
90,000 miles on mine and still have tread
Hardly had to use 4 wheel drive in snow, they dig that well

Yeah, read Toms Duratrac thread, and other online reviews. Pretty awesome tire if you need good Ice traction. Otherwise Michelin LTX at2's would probably save fuel, less noise, but I read they aren't good one ice. Good with snow though...

I think the only thing I found that the Duratracs aren't good in was wet pavement. But, we're driving an SUV, not a Porsche, so cornering, and braking fast is suicide anyhow :2cents:

Cooper Discoverer ATP. My KJ came with them when I bought it last winter, and they made it through the deep stuff beautifully. Did great in mud, too, and on pavement they're quiet and grippy. (They're actually for sale right now, since I put something a bit bigger on recently.)

Been running Duratracs on mine. Love them. They have did very well in rain and snow for me. Granted they give off a bit more road noise but I just turn up the music.

Yeah for Cooper Discoverer, cousin have them and wears like iron. Started to get louder on highway though but overall great even for snow and mud. He's gonna get Dura Grappler next for snow hauling. Just perfect time to get them for discount and rebates. Check them out:

Are you running stock tires? If you put on bigger tires, I'd recommend the General Grabber AT2's if you're on a budget. I ran 235/70/R15's on mine (I only have the stock size) before I bought BF Goodrichs. When I went to get tires again, General discontinued the 235 size, which is a shame since I really liked them. They gripped snow incredibly well and even took them off roading when they were on the worn side and they still gripped pretty well. But if you have a larger tire on your Liberty, they still make them in all the other sizes.

Now, I still have the same tire size but I bought BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KOs. Biggest difference I noticed is they are a little quieter but would rate them on the same level as the Generals. I'm extremely happy with them and IMO, I think they look better than the Generals but that's just personal opinion (I just like the solid white letters as opposed to the outline white letters on the Generals) :)

General Grabber still makes the 235's just not in that exact sizing. I have the 235/70/R16 and I love them. My buddy who has BF AT2's calls them the BF knock offs. But the ride is pretty smooth and they're great in rain. I have yet to use them in snow or ice since I've only had them/the Jeep since June.

As a former user, I can say you will not be disappointed. What 235 size do they still make? The guy from General I talked to on the phone said they discontinued the 235 size if I recall correctly.
