Hope I’m posting this in the right area, I didn’t see a ‘crazy ideas' category...

For carrying long loads like canoes or 2man kayaks on my 06 Liberty I’d like to have my cross bars spaced farther apart than the factory roof rails allow, and have the centre of the load more forward. I’m wondering about installing some Yakima Landing Pads directly on the roof, right up at the front. With some towers and a crossbar there on the Landing Pads plus a rear crossbar way back on the factory rails, I'd have way more spread and the load wouldn’t be quite so far to the rear. But I don’t know how strong the roof is up front where I’d drill holes and mount the Landing Pads in those channels under the plastic trim. I haven’t looked under the trim yet or taken off the ceiling headliner to see if there’s a reinforcing rib or something along that part of the roof. Has anyone has had a look up there near the front doors or knows if that part of the roof is as strong as the part farther back where the factory rails are seated? Besides leak potential I’m concerned about the sunroof & excessive roof flex, etc.

There’s a roof rack/truck accessories shop close by who have done this type of installation but I figured I should get some opinions here first.

Thanks.
