I'm looking at a used 2005 4x4 Renegade that already has 24K miles on it. Has anyone that has a 2005 experienced those lovely LBJ troubles that I see that all the previous years have endured? I know my 2005 KJ RME never seemed to have an issue and I had nearly 12K on it. Just looking for some thoughts. OR has anyone seemed to have had any issues with their 2005 4x4 KJs in general??? Here is the one in question:

My 2005 Renegade has just over 20k miles on it (already...wow...I got it with < 10 miles on it last february). 2005 is a great year. You already know the flat hood that changes the way people look at the liberty. Now you get to see the command-trac 4x4, too! You'll love it! Also, the plastic bumper and fenders are a godsend. I laugh at all the other new cars my friends get when they get dinged up in the parking lot. Plastic doesn't show a ding! Is it a 6-speed or an auto? I see rock-rails, does that mean it has skids and a trac-loc, too? You'll love it! |

I have that exact same KJ minus the light bar. I bought it brand new and I have just under 20K on it. I haven't had any problems up un til now. My LBJs look good, as do my CV angles with the frankenlift. |

It's an automatic. I see the rock rails too, I haven't actually looked at it in the flesh (or metal rather) because I just found it yesterday on-line when I started looking for a new one in my area. But my thinking is it should have the skid plates unless the guy was smart enough to take them off and sell them or something. I had e-mailed the dealer today if it was still available (for sale at a Subaru dealership actually) and they said it was but that the light covers for the light bar are not with the car, i had asked if they had them since they weren't on in the picture. I jsut hope I can convince my parents to help me invest on it.... |

Mine did not include them, and I wasn't knowledgeable enough at the time to know I would want or need them. |

RockyMtEditionKJ, That is one sexy KJ... mind you I am a little biased since that is almost the exact same one i have... Mine is an 2006 with 6 speed and a sunroof but on the outside it pretty much looks the same... Definitely check for the skid plates... What are they asking for it? Buy it then come up to Ontario and you me and zeero can go wheelin in a dark khaki renegade train! heh heh good luck! |

Looks like mine...Mine did come with the Off-Road Package, so it had skids and the Rock Rails. Does it have a sunroof too? |

It doesn't say in the vehicle description that it does so I am assuming not. It's going for $19,900 at this Subaru dealership. I just noticed that it seems to have taillight guards on it too. Is that standard or part of some package that the Renegade comes with? |

As I understand it, all the Renegades have those stock rock 'tubes'. They will be sufficient if you do light wheeling, but anything more intense, and you'll want to upgrade to some real rock sliders. ( <Read I bent those things. ) Also, having full skids doesn't indicate a Trac-Loc. I have full skids from the factory, and no Trac-Loc. Might not be a bad idea to put some money down to hold it while you get the VIN. Heck call them and ask for the VIN. Then, contact your Jeep dealer and get a vehicle report on it. The could probably fax it to you too. Then you'll have a better idea of what you are buying. Did anyone ask what they are asking for it? I don't remember seeing it. Some dealers offer up some sweet NEW Renegades on eBay for real cheap... Makes me wish I looked there first... **edit - Just saw the price tag. Not a bad deal, but you can get an 06 for only a few thousand more with minimal miles. Just a thought, not sure what kind of budget you are working with. Good Luck. |

According to the photocopy I have of the dealership blue book, Off Road Group includes: Trac-Lok Power Steering Cooler Heavy Duty Engine Cooling P235/70R16 AT tires Front Suspension Skid Transmission Skid "Skid Plate Group" Fuel Tank Skid Transfer Case Skid Tow Hooks There are two packages for the Renegade in 2005, The D and the X: D has the following (X doesn't): - Roof Mounted Light Bar - Power Driver Seat - Skid Plates - Tail Lamp Guards These are, of course, options that can be added to the D package. The taillamp guards are only listed as part of the D package, however, I don't see them as an available option for the X at all. That would imply that if you have the taillamp guards that you also have the skids. Another thing I can tell you is that you do not have heated seats. It could still have the luxury package, sunroof, etc, as those are separate options that may/may not be included. |

Good spot. I agree, looks like no offroad group. Also, it's hard to tell, but I don't think I can see front tow hooks. |

That's the exact same set up that I have, except I have front tow hooks from the factory. |
