Post subject:  Do'h! Stupid Stupid Stupid

So, I need some help and Im about to goto bed so I'll make this quick.

Today I decided to remove this:
Image

Because on the way home I noticed when I held it down with my fingers while driving it was much quieter. Now, when taken off, there are two bended strips of metal which can fold down but stick back up again when no pressure is applied; and that is what made the unit in question rise when the sunroof is back. So in all my stupidity I thought that it would be alright so I closed then sunroof but at the end I heard the thing-a-ma-du-hickies click up and now I can no longer move the sunroof back because they are jamming the slider.

So my question is what are my options? Is their a quick way to remove the glass so I can hold the two strips down while moving the sunroof back? Or do I need to take it to the dealer? What would they charge for that?

Thanks for the help guys,
Sean

Did you try moving it back by hand, maybe while flipping the switch to move it too? I looked through my Haynes manual and saw how to remove the regular windows, but there's nothing dealing with the sunroof. You could try removing the trim/weather stripping around the window, but be careful about your headliner.

I'm not sure though how the sunroof is set up or anything, so don't try anything yourself unless you feel fairly confident you won't make anything worse :?

You might be best off taking it to the dealer. I don't know how much it would cost, but if what I payed to get an O2 sensor replaced (I know I know, I should have done it myself ) is any indication, you may be looking at about $200, maybe more. Good luck.

For what its worth, unless your dealer has a body shop, they would probably sub sunroof work out to somebody else (at least the dealer here does). You might want to just ask them who they use and go directly to them instead of paying thier markup.

Good luck!

According to the '02 factory manual there are 4 screws holding the sunroof glass in place. With the sunshade open and the glass closed you will need to remove 2 screws on either side of the opening beneath the opening and llift the glass out of the roof. Once you clear or repair your jam the glass is replaced in the reverse order and you must be careful to align it properly.

The glass should be 1.75mm-2.75mm lower than the roof surface at the front and .75mm-1.75mm lower than the roof surface at the rear.

I hope this helps, I don't know what year your KJ is, these instructions are for '02

I don't have sunroof, but you can take the glass out, by removing 4 bolts hidden under tabs on each corner, as shown
