| Post subject: | No Owners Manual - Help ! |
I just bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty Special Edition fully loaded. Great deal at only 15k with only $30,000 miles on it. However, I did not receive a owners manual. Is there anyone here that can help me with programming the built-in universal remote ? Also, what do you recommend to use to maintain the auto sunroof ? Thanks ! |

I would go back to the dealer you bought it from and ask them to get you a manual. |

I suggest eBay. Owners manuals seem to go for around $2-$10 or so, plus shipping. Search for "2002 Jeep Liberty Owners Manual" http://search.ebay.com/2002-jeep-liberty-owners-manual |

Any hints on the universal remote ? Not sure on the sunroof. There's some kind of grease in there from what I can see, but I don't know what kind. For the universal remote, I assume you mean the Homelink garage-door opener? I haven't used it myself, but I bet that the owners manual will say how to do it. |

I don't think DC says anything about it. It's a moving part and it could potentially get gunk in it, so it probably needs regreasing at some point in its life (but any more than the power seats need regreasing, really) I got sand on the tracks of mine awhile back, but never actually did anything about it. It doesn't make a grinding noise anymore, so I guess I got most of it out. |

When I bought my 02 Liberty, the dealer gave me an 06 owners manual. I then went back to the dealer to get something fixed, and they gave me the correct 02 manual. I could send you the manual if you jus pay the shipping cost (and cost of box or whatever). |

The Homelink remote is easy: Set the garage door reciever to learn mode (usually a button on the opener itself). Press and release the button in the Jeep you want to use. Press and release it again. Press and release it again and it should operate the door. |

Make extra sure it's not inside the glove box. There is a tray to stow it at the top of the glove box. Seriously. |

This is a great point. It is almost hidden on the top of the glove box when it is opened. |

Thanks all ! Since I just bought it, I really need some hints and tips on maintaining the vehicle. I really want to get into 4 wheel driving but have no cluse since this is my first 4x4. Also, would like to have a source or website on getting a tire cover for the back. I would like something unusual and not something that just says "Jeep". And on the owners manual, let me know how you want to work that out. Thanks again ! |

I got my tire cover custom made by Apache Spare Tire Covers, an eBay store. It's very high quality cut + sewn vinyl, it's still in perfect shape after a year. I think the cost was around $60 or so, but it depends on the design. They have a lot of nice covers to pick from as well. Only advice I would give is to make sure that you have the tire size you want before getting a cover made. I am putting a lift on this weekend and eventually swapping out the tires, but it means I have to say goodbye to my sweet one-of-a-kind tire cover. |

dkcase brought up a good point. Check the little hidden slot just above the glovebox. Here's a pict of my dash showing the little slot we're talking about.
And welcome to LOST!! |

Hi there, I'm new in the forum too... Congrats to all of you, you have a wonderful site, I've been looking around, searching things during the last few days and I've learned a lot about Jeep Libertys...(I'm new for 'em, but not for the 4x4 and off-roading...old wolf) I was a previous proudly owner of a beautiful Jeep Wrangler 98, but was stoled (i couldn't have go through it, for me still is very difficult to forget that beauty :=( After that, my wife and I had to take a very difficult decision, buy another TJ, a larger 4x4 pickup with 4 doors, and old Cherokee...and never pass for my mind a Liberty, but suddenly one day a friend of mine was selling his babe and told me...cmon try it, take it for the weekend...and guess what...my wife and I felt in love with the Libby.... Liberty's has some limitations (lift and tire size), but we needed a more spacious car without sacrifice the distance between axles...and this was the answer... Was a tough decision, but now, we're very comfortable with our new Liberty and waiting to frankenlift it and new shoes... Saludos desde México !!! Ajua !! P.S.: I was wondering where to get that f#$ken manual, and when I saw the picture I went out and guess what...???...there was the owner's manual...thank you very much, i was worry where I could get it...but...I repeat it...this site is amazing, has a lot of information and the great people here make the difference... |

Sorry there's no manual there for you InEl Paso. But glad we could help you Liberate. And welcome to the forum and Liberty ownership. It's really a great truck that gets a bit of an unfair rap. InEl Paso - by description, I believe you have the Selec-Trac® system. Does it say 2WD>4 Part Time>4 Full Time>N>4LO? 2WD powers the rear only. Front axle spins freely. 4 Part Time locks the center differential and powers all wheels in unison. Do not use this on dry pavement. Only to be used PART of the time 4 Full Time powers all 4 wheels but does not lock the center differential so the front and rear axles can rotate at different speeds. I use this in traffic when it's raining. It keeps down wheel spin when accelerating from a traffic light. I usually put it back in 2WD before getting on a highway, but I've had it at highway speeds in 4Full before with no adverse effects. N - Use this when you're towing your Liberty behind another vehicle. 4 Lo - Use in severe off road situations. Mine multiplies engine torque by 2.72:1 (not sure what the 2002s do, but probably the same). To shift into this gear slow down to 2-3 MPH, put your transmission (not 4WD selector...transmission) into Neutral, engage 4LO, then put your tranny back into Drive (or 1st gear if you have manual). Click here for the Jeep 4X4 system explanations and little diagrams. I hope this helps! |
